This is a shot in the dark. If you don’t already have it, download Wave AgentWave Agent from Sound Devices. It’s free. Open the wav file from Pro Tools (duplicate it as a backup before doing this) and look at the interface. Check the sample rate and the frame rate. If they are 48000 and 23.97 (their notation for 23.976, I guess) then you might try changing the sample rate to speed up (greater than 48000) or slow down (less than 48000). Wave Agent has two sample rates in its drop down menu to either side of 48k. You didn’t say whether the Pro Tools mix was ahead or behind. Choose the appropriate sample rate and Save. Then try that file in FCP. If, on the other hand there’s no frame rate or it’s not 23.97, change it to 23.97 and Save. Try that. I’ve never had to do what I’m describing, but that’s what I’d try in this case.

Her’s a fix that Jeremy Garchow suggests that has worked for others. Usually, it’s happened with 23.98 (actually 23.976) timelines, but substitute your frame rate if different.

“First, delete the new mix out of FCP and your timeline. Set FCP up in a 23.98 easy setup, then quit FCP. Now reopen FCP and reimport your new mix.

The file should be in sync.”

Every developer loves Flash since it will playback on many platforms regardless of the OS. But every computer’s display will have it’s local gamma, right? I just checked a Flash file playing back from YouTube on a Mac and a PC and they definitely play differently with the PC being darker.

I edit in the original file’s codec or ProRes depending on how it was shot. I export the edit codec (current settings). I use Compressor a lot, but I also use Sorenson Squeeze and BitVice. I never use FCP to export other than a QuickTime with Current Settings (which is what I think you mean by full HD).

Rafael & Michael are both right. Unfortunately, this has been an issue from day 1. PC and Mac have different gammas. You can try to split the difference, but it’ll be a compromise.

IMHO, I’d keep the project in HD. Export a Quicktime with Current Settings (not Using QT Conversion) when the edit is locked. Then it’s easy to turn that into any format you want: SD for DVD, h.264, flv, Blu-ray, etc. You future-proof yourself this way.
