audio is out of sync in final cut
Hello I have a problem with the audio files of a project in Final Cut and would appreciate any help or suggestion for the following problem
I was given a video to edit which has audio tracks from the camera mike which is obviously in sync
However there was also external sound recording with the Zoom H2 and 4 tracks of wireless mikes …
The sound recorded with the camera shows up as a quicktime 48kh 16bit
The sound recorded with external equipment shows up as itunes file 48 kh 24bit
(They were converted to send)
This conversion i believe has somehow that made them be out of sync. Even if i sink one part it does not stay in sync for long
Has something happened during the conversion to i tune format ???
Is it the 16bit 24bit difference???
I could of course ask the person who sent me the files to send them unconverted but was wondering if there might be a solution that someone has come across ???

By iTunes format do you mean aac or mp3? The files should be 48khz aif or wav files, either 16 or 24bit.
Avoid anything but uncompressed wav & aif and everything must be 48khz including the timeline to avoid problems in FCP.

OK yes not itunes
They are wav files they just come up as itunes format if i open properties in final cut
When i reveal in finder and go to properties they are wav files
There is a difference in data rate (could this be a problem) ????
The camera files are 5,9 MB sec 48 KHz 16 bit (part of mov file from camera)
Data rate of the zoom files is 187,5 KB per sec 48KHz 16 bit (wav files)
Data rate of wireless mikes is 562,5 KB per sec 48KHz 24 bit (wav files)Audio settings of the project are 16 bit 48KHz stereo…

Her’s a fix that Jeremy Garchow suggests that has worked for others. Usually, it’s happened with 23.98 (actually 23.976) timelines, but substitute your frame rate if different.
“First, delete the new mix out of FCP and your timeline. Set FCP up in a 23.98 easy setup, then quit FCP. Now reopen FCP and reimport your new mix.
The file should be in sync.”
