Checkout Alzo Video’s Pan-L-Lite. We own 2 and they are excellent. They use OSRAM bulbs, come with barn doors, flozier, honeycomb, are designed so their tilting stand mount can be placed on any side of the unit, and have 2 dimmers. If you mix 3200k & 5600k bulbs you can dim each pair independently. Very impressive product. I’m not connected in any way to Alzo. It’s just that every so often a terrific production comes along that you’re glad you bought. This is one of those.

Have you tried exporting an XML from 6.0.1 and then opening it in 6.0.6? I don’t remember FCP6’s upgrade path. It’s been a while.

I’ve only used XDCAM Transfer once about a year ago and it worked very well. The cards were shot and then transferred to a hard drive using the finder. The footage was shot by an out-of-town crew. I would have used Shotput Pro to transfer since it does a byte-by-byte verification. But the transfer was OK. I was able to view clips and then create QTs which I imported into into FCP 7. Here’s a portion of the User Guide:

XDCAM Transfer is a software solution that enables you to use media captured using Sony’s XDCAM system in Apple’s Final Cut Pro video editing software.

You are about to install the following components:

• XDCAM FAM driver and tool.
Mount Professional Discs in XDCAM devices connected by FAM (i.LINK) in the Finder.

• XDCAM Transfer main application.
Preview clips from XDCAM and import your selected material as QuickTime movies. XDCAM Transfer supports the PDW-U1 XDCAM Drive unit and Professional Memory Cards recorded with the PMW-EX1 camcorder.

• Sony XDCAM Import and Export plug-ins for Final Cut Pro.

I agree it looks like an overload of some kind. Did you see this on your monitor while shooting? If you need to re-shoot, dial in the strongest ND and expose for the flash. Don’t worry about the background. You might have to combine two shots – one exposed for the wall and non-flashing light and the second exposed for the flashing. This will be stopped down to the correct exposure, thereby, darkening everything but the flash. Then combine the shots using a luma key or a Composite Mode.

Another technique to cover an audio edit is to show a reaction of another speaker. Cut-in a second of two before the edit. You can add a bit of room tone so the edit is properly paced. You might be lucky and the reaction comes from the person speaking next. If you cut in some reaction shots here and there even when you don’t need them it sets the style so when you need the reaction to cover an edit it doesn’t stand out.

I’ve used XDCAM Transfer v2.12 which worked well. It also acts as a viewer.

Checkout this link for Compressor Repair. It might help. I’m not certain about the sub clips. It’s possible they’ll re-link if the file names are identical and in the same path. Be sure to put the originals in a safe place so they’re not overwritten.

In the future, I’d convert one set of files to the other’s timebase so all clips in the sequence have the same timebase. Even though they’ll play from the timeline, FCP doesn’t like mixed timebases. Convert your 23.976 clips to 29.97 in Compressor (Frame Controls ON) and then see how it goes. Or vice-versa. If your 23.976 clips have pulldown added and so have the same timebase (29.97), then I’m not sure what’s going on.

If you can open the f4V in QT, but not export, you might need QT Pro. If you have FCP installed you have QT Pro. You said you tried to saveit. Did you try to export from QT? Otherwise, I’m out of ideas. Can the originator of the f4v give you a QT?
