Imagine’s products are excellent. We use HD Log to view a few seconds of every clip after transferring them to a hard drive to make sure there are no problems. If you don’t keep the files on your P2 cards (and most probably don’t) the files on your drive are your masters. We never have less than two complete copies of all the tested files on separate drives.

Rycote has a variety of products that can help. That said, when you bury mics to avoid wind noise, the tradeoff is your sound is muffled. Soundmen I’ve worked with often have lavs with a much brighter response that they use when hiding them. And, of course, you have to eq the track in post. Also, where you hide the mic can make a difference. I’ve seen mics hidden in shirt collars, under hat brims, and in hair. Creative soundmen have a lot of tricks. Here’s an article about using lavs. There’s a section about dealing with noise.

Jordan’s advice is first rate. And most DAWs come with the basic tools to accomplish what he suggests. One piece of software I’ve come to love is iZotope’s Ozone. It’s quite flexible and delivers excellent results. However, like any tool, you have to learn how to use it properly.

Killer Tracks isn’t royalty free, but you can purchase licenses within your budget. Their Trakfinder is a first rate online audition system and you can store choices per project. I agree with Bob that SmartSound offers some excellent music and functionality.

Have you tested your drive speed with AJA System Test? How full is your drive and what kind? Did you trash prefs & repaired permissions?

You can find Disk Warrior here. But, if other projects work and this one doesn’,your project may be corrupt. Have you tried any of the autosaved versions of the project? Or, try opening a new project and copying the edit from your current timeline to a new timeline. Also, you can try Digital Rebellion’s FCS Maintenance Pack. It has a Corrupt File finder, Project Repairer and other handy programs. And, a 15-day trial.

Does the Finder work properly? If you have Disk Warrior run it. It’s the first thing I do (after trashing prefs & repairing permissions)when anything on the Mac starts behaving strangely.
