FYI, The 27″ spinning drive is 7200rpm for the fusion drive. I helped perpetuate that so now I’m trying to fix it :).

OH, I just realized it was used stuff you were looking at. For $450, it’s not a steal but you’re not being robbed either. I had basically that same setup for a year. It’ll work ok. Don’t expect the moon and be cautious with the highpoint. It’s a decent starter RAID system.

Just as a suggestion, I have the 8MS and an Areca 1882x as well as a ATTO R680. This is what I would do were I you.

Box:
Get a proavio 6G box, not the 8ms, but the EB800ms. According to the specs this supports 6G drive speed. You want all 6G components, you’ll have a faster system, and you’ll be happier for longer.

Card:
The Areca 1882x card is good, but the ATTO R680 is better for video. I got a bad ATTO card and went with the Areca originally, but also ended up getting another ATTO which worked fine. I now have both. The ATTO is the better performer.

Drives: Everybody recommends Ultrastars but we were ok with Deskstars. Your mileage may vary.

You want 6G compatible elements for everything. You get faster speeds that way.

Good luck! The ProAvio guys will give you the proper ATTO or Areca settings needed for their box to work the best.

In terms of keystrokes, what’s cool is I set my i/o in the event and hit q. It’s faster than dragging. The secondary storylines are only created when I add transitions. Snapping is almost always on. We also use the opt + [ or ] to quickly trim elements, with little “,” and “.” for minuscule finessing.

We had to create a system of working outside the primary without ever committing because just because we make delivery, 6 months later we can get a call for a revision and reposting of the spot. So we just stay out. Everybody working the same way keeps things generally consistent. Since every spot has generally been touched by at least 3 people, it makes sense for us to do it all the same way.
