No snideness taken or inferred – I hear the “Leopard won’t help you” thing often, but in my case it will. A combo of Automator and and ‘back to my mac’ screen sharing will finally let me leave the house. I’m not expecting full-on realtime with screen sharing (or sound, I guess), but often my notes are “change one shot and send us a QT”. THAT, I can do from my buddy’s house on my macbook whilst having a nice cold brew.

So now I have to learn how to replace a controller card on my RAID if I want to do that. Doh! Guess which company won’t get my biz?

Oh, and on a wireless-n network, screen sharing is virtually realtime. Can’t tell you how cool it was seeing TWO screens (for the dual monitor setup) smushed down to fit on a macbook. Made me a little teary eyed :-).

My angst about the controller not working is somewhat justified to an extent. Lots of people are having problems with Highpoint raid cards (not just the 1820) and the company isn’t giving much in the way of feedback, support, or anything else. Even the 2220 they say to upgrade to is not working correctly. Think I”m gonna take Walter’s advice and try the ATTO out.

Lots of PR bragging on the day Leopard launched about how Highpoint was already out the gate with Leopard support – then all these forums popped up with people not able to get their RAIDs to work.

Seems like lazy software/driver development to me – especially because I can READ from the drives just fine. They should really EOL this product.

Highpoint is not supporting leopard with a few of it’s cards. I don’t expect support for forever, but it’s barely been 2 years since I purchased this bad boy.

Upgrade to a newer card? So they can not support it next year? No thanks!

What are my options guys? Is there another card that will support Leopard that I can purchase in place of this 1820? What a serious disappointment…:-(.

I can’t imagine how there’s not a software driver solution to getting this card to work. I know some folks are gonna tell me to get over it and that’s life, but seriously? You CAN’T get it to work?

They Highpoint mac site says in regards to the 1820: “For Leopard Support Upgrade to RocketRaid2220 Controller”.

Do you guys think this means I need to install that controllers driver, or that I need to buy a brand new 2220 piece of hardware?

I emailed support at Highpoint for some clarity on the situation. Wouldn’t want to be installing drivers for hardware I don’t have.

You know it’s funny you mention that about the drivers. I downloaded the most recent ones (my model no longer gets new ones- they said to use the 2200 driver, I think) and at first I got a freeze. Defribulated myself, forced a shutdown and it booted up fine ever since. There was a little sluggishness in the shutdown a few times, but I think it was pretty straightforward.

I’m not going to stress about RAID drivers till I get the get my AJA drivers. One impatient fit at a time :-).

Highpoint RocketRaid 1820 (I think) with an 8 bay attachment from the DR Group.

I honestly didn’t want to mess up any files from my current FCP Tiger setup so I just opened it, got the scratch disk warning, and got outta there. Soon as the AJA drivers are in, I’ll make the real switch.

I put Leopard on the wife’s macbook, her mother’s macbook, and my brother’s macbook – all fine with minimal issues.

Then I put Leopard on a 2nd internal drive (now I have dual booties) and have continued to work in Tiger with an occasional foray into Leopard (I’m scared to get too used to it until it’s ‘street ready’). My RAID shows up on Leopard, but there are issues with writing to the drive with Final Cut. I’m finished with another project hopefully tomorrow, and hopefully tomorrow AJA will release the long coveted driver for Kona 2.

I think my RAID issues have something to do with running two copies of final cut with the same scratch disk. I dunno – could just be a weird issue that the update fixes. I’ll find out.

Other than that, I really like Leopard and am excited about being able to get back to my mac over the holidays for that all-too-often emergency client call whilst I’m on vacation.

OH, and sending out those scary email templates to everybody. That’ll be fun.

New Playhead-Centered Zooming Commands in the Timeline
Final Cut Pro 6.0.2 includes three commands for playhead-centered zooming and navigation in the Timeline:

Zoom In on Playhead in Timeline: Keeps the Timeline playhead centered while zooming in (regardless of the selection in the Timeline).
Zoom Out on Playhead in Timeline: Keeps the Timeline playhead centered while zooming out (regardless of the selection in the Timeline).
