Unless the TC isn’t in the meta-data, AE retains source TC. Just take your clip, drag it on the make new comp button and it should have but if it’s not, just press “cntl+K” for the comp, and set the start TC as needed.

Also, it may depend on your codec if you are trying to maintain the TC after you render. I just did a test though, exported footage from my Avid, using the DNxHD codec(free on the Avid site), put it on the make comp icon and it had it’s TC. Rendered back to the DNxHD codec, imported into Avid and it kept the original TC. Just for fun, I imported the footage into Premiere—still maintains TC.

If you aren’t creating it in a 3D program, and doing it in AE, I would create it in multiple layers. The top layer would be the edges and bevels. I would use lights and move them across the edges/bevels, play with the specular and add glows.

Another method, if you can get the paths to match up from illustrator and the extruded logo would be to simply add a stroke to paths, feather it, and offset it around the logo in different places, add a little glow and that’s about all you need.

Play around with those methods and if you get stuck ask some more direct questions.

It looks like you didn’t have an alpha tag when your rendered out your text. You should have a layer above your text image sequence and a luma matte. You can check to see if particular is working with your camera by turning off the text layer.

The particular layer should NOT be a 3D layer. Particular takes the 3D from an AE camera and uses it to project it’s particles in a 3d within the plugin. Turning the layer into a 3D layer will create a flat layer that will not be 3D. Change this back to a normal layer and if you are still having issues, please upload a screen grab of your timeline.

I made a project a few years ago where letters were falling out of the sky, fluttering a little by the wind. Basically, just using a sin curve to move them back and forth in x and z space, along with some y rotation.

Here’s an updated version of that project. The controller null is where you can change the how often the flutters are(_Freq) and how big they are(_Amp or _Max Tilt). In the project I uploaded, I keyframed the _Freq of each property to get it to stop fluttering. And it’s set up so that you can use position keyframes on your object to move it into place.

Take a look, it might help you on your project or give you some ideas to try out.

The easiest way, pay the 22 bucks to buy the template. Honestly, that would be cheaper than the amount of time it will probably cost to rebuild that effect.

Why do you assume it’s a template? That could have been easily made in an edit system with the composite work done later.

If you are looking for inexpensive templates, I would suggest Pond5 or Video Hive.
