    Make the rectangle shape you need, twirl open the contents and copy the rectangle path and paste it into the ellipse contents. Move it to the top of the stack then delete ellipse path.

    here’s a tutorial from hitfilm to make a bullet trail. It uses it’s own set of plugins, but you should be able to take the technique and do it in AE with particular, displacement mapping. If there’s a specific part that you have trouble adapting, come back and let ask, but I think it’s pretty straight forward.

    You can close everything, then press “U”, and that will only show things that have been changed on the layer. But you will still the name of the effect as a blank layer.

  • Off the top of my head, are you using one instance of particular with multiple emitters, or multiple instances. Also, can you post a screen grab with your particular settings and timeline visible?

    I think you would want to use trapcode form in conjuction with C4D. Create .obj in C4D, then use that as the ‘base form’. Check out this tutorial.
