I don’t care that it looks like R2D2. The internals are mouth watering. Will be great as a stand alone station for sure.

Our television station just had a major television network come in and check out our Avid system. They were using FCP 7. No way in hell did they even think about moving to FCPX. It’s not a pro app. Period.

Moving clips around the timeline with your mouse is much easier on FCP7 than on Avid. I personally like FCP7 better but I work with Avid everyday.

I’m not the least bit excited to have to switch platforms. But since I am forced to switch platforms, Premiere Pro seems to make the most sense.

As a FCP user I think the switch to Premiere Pro would be easier for you. Most FCP users find Avid very frustrating. It’s very different.

That looks cool. But gimmicky. In any given project I could have thousands of clips. Where will all these clips be? If I could get a monitor the size of a wall I think it could work.

I think you’d be pretty safe going with Adobe products. Adobe’s life blood are artists. Their focus is on creating software that manipulates pixels while Apple’s main focus is selling hardware. Adobe cannot survive without serving the professional artists while Apple could drop FCPX all together and not skip a beat.
Many fear that Apple will also discontinue Mac Pro. This would definitely end the relationship between Apple and professional editors for good.

It’s called Adobe Media Encoder. I haven’t messed around with it too much yet. But it looks like it will do what you need it to do.
