  • Hi Joseph,

Premiere can conform 29.97 footage at the project level. It doesn’t render any new frames or require transcoding. It just takes the frames in the 29.97 and plays them back at 23.976. It’s just metadata. I use to use cinematools when I was on FCP to do the same thing. It would just change the metadata and not require any encoding. Cinematools would do it at the file level instead of a project level like PPro is doing. I suppose that might work.

I can export the conformed clips to a standalone clip as a QT or image sequence, but I was trying to figure out a way to avoid that. I might try CinemaTools (if I still have a copy) to conform at the Finder level before importing into premiere. If that doesn’t work, I’ll export my 29.97 clips as stand alone 23.976 clips.

    Thanks again,
    John

You’ll probably export it to some sort of 10 bit uncompressed flavor of FCP quicktime. Ask the post house what they prefer. Rather than using quicktime conversion, create a new sequence in the format you’re delivering in and copy and past you video into the new sequence. That way you can take a look at how it renders and make any adjustments if you need to.

There is a “broadcast safe” filter in the color correction folder, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Open up the video scope tool and get it as close as you can. Then ask the post house doing the master to fine tune it as they need to.

There is bars and tone in FCP. You’ll just need to set the tone to -20 since you’re going to digibeta.

-12 seems a little low for your audio levels. Depending on the place I’ve mastered closer to -8 or -10.

I’d recommend setting up a FCP project for you post house to use rather than just a self contained quicktime. That way you can set up the time line with you self contained qt on video 1, a wav or aif of your music and voice on 1&2 and a wav or aif of your music and fx on 3&4. You’re post house will have to route tacks 3&4 from your timeline to the digibeta by right clicking on the speaker icon on your timeline and choosing “audio outputs” and selecting 3&4. Typically, I have master a full mix on 1&2 and music and fx on 3&4. Are you sure about your specs?

    Good Luck!

    Hi Roger,

It depends on where your video is going. If if you’re uploading it to a video hosting site like youtube or vimeo they’ll convert it to flash video for you and provide you with a way to embed or link to the video. Whatever you’re end use of the video, flash is the way to go in my opinion. It’s a great looking format and most people have flash installed on their computers regardless of platform. If you’re not comfortable encoding an FLV file and creating flash players, export an h.264 and upload it to a video hosting site like vimeo, exposure room or youtube. Then you can embed or link to the video. Sites like exposure room and vimeo will even let you password protect the video if you using it for client approval on projects.

    Hope this helps,
    John

I’ve used On2 Technologies Flix pro for a couple years with good results. It will integrate into compressor and QT pro.
