I never had any staff working for me so I have no experience with salaries. For the people who brought me business, I paid 10% if they gave me a name and introduction and it turned into a job. If they actively helped seal the deal, 20 – 25% on the first deal, 6% on subsequent jobs with the same client.

You might also consider a clause that states they have the appropriate permissions/copyright of any graphics, images or material they supply to you for inclusion into the video, and that they will indemnify you should you be sued for copyright infringement based on the material supplied by them.

Can’t disagree with the spam thing. I usually delete and add the sender to my spam filter.

If you’re looking for a good marketing tool, I would say that attending networking events that lean towards your target market is your best bet.

Since you’re a serviced based business, visibility is key. If people don’t know you exist……. The most important thing I learned while self employed is that people do business with people they know and trust. Networking is the best way to establish those relationships.

Check out your local chamber of commerce, rotary, associations…. Good hunting.

Think of it this way, your using some plane jane clip art that the whole world has access to. All you 18 hour days are paying off and your company begins to grow and stand out. Only problem is, you don’t own your logo. Maybe your competition decides to cash in on your hard work by using the same logo on material sent to your prospective clients. Hmm……could be a bit confusing.

I’d suggest that if you want a logo, either design one your self or hire a graphic artist, (using a ‘work for hire’ agreement), to design one for you. That way, you can copyright it, register it as a trademark and own all rights to it.

When I had my own business, one of my competitors actually began using my tag line. Since I didn’t register it, couldn’t do anything about it.

Imaging what the Nike swash logo is worth today.

    Cheers.

    Markus,

Part of the business plan is a marketing plan. Identify your customers/market and find out what they want.

    Cheers

I agree with the previous posts about taking the responsibility.

The problem of drop-out is a tape thing. One little defect in the tape, piece of dust….

If you want to greatly reduce the possibility of the video going south, go with a solid-state camera or use an external HDD to capture the video.

Thanks, I’ve contacted an F/X company.

Other than blowing up cans with M-80’s and catching baitfish with cherry bombs, haven’t used explosives for anything ‘constructive’

  • Well said.

  • Spent the last 25 of 28 years in Canada, missed a lot of memos.
