I’m taking over a project. I have no experience in fcpx, was trying to first get all my files in the timeline and then do some tutorials on fcpx. When i click on the first video file that’s marked red on timeline it has no denotation regarding filters in the inspector. i know that this clip and many of the others in red are .mov files with all effects exported into 422s or 4444s. this is why i don’t understand why it would be marked red with missing filters. thanks, joe

Actually, i was wrong. the above response was when i clicked on the clip in the browser – no effect tab came up. but when i clicked on the first clip in the timeline the effect tab came up in inspector. i turned all effects off and the clip was still red in the timeline.

Thanks, but do you know how to turn the effects off? and if i turn them off then I lose the finished project with the effect. Is there a way to search and find the effects?

The files with effects that aren’t showing up in the timeline, many show up in the browser with all of the effects in place and they are .mov files for the most part which makes it even more weird in that how is fcpx separating an effect from a .mov file? Thanks for your help, joe

    thanks man, good point.

When i click on the project timeline it says 473 missing effects and 2 missing transitions. the effects must be referring to filters. do you know how to search for effects/filters?

I’m totally new to fcpx. when i click on a red clip in the browser a lot of them come up as compound clips which i was told to search for in a smart folder but couldn’t find it. I understand what a compound clip is and it would seem that probably the 473 missing effects or some of them would be in the compound clips. What would you recommend from here? Thanks for your help. joe

  • Rafael,

    Thanks for your help!

I was able to find my project and broke it up into 3 one hour parts. Still experienced system very slow and crashing a lot. so I listened to Apple and cleaned up HD. In the process I deleted about 4 apps that I didn’t think had anything to do with FCP. Since I’ve done that and ran a defrag of the HD FCP won’t open any of my projects. I get “This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut” or “Wasn’t able to open project”

I’m thinking I need to uninstall my whole system as in the aps I deleted – garage band and I forgot the others – small programs that I think FC must have used relative to the path of my files in FC. What are your thoughts? If I uninstall I take it there are precautions so as not to lose projects. I have FCP the version before the last version, have a Mac OSx 10.6.8, 2.16 GHz INtel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAm. My project files are on external HDs. What do you think?

    Thanks,
    joe

    Hello,

Is there a quick way to add the 0db fade without the pen tool?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I used your Hi Pass recommendation and it worked on the back end of my clips but not the front end. Any ideas? I set the frequency at 10 and the Q at .71.

    Thanks,
    joe

    Hi Bill,

Thanks for your response. I appreciate it.

We used daylights in the ceiling lights of the classroom. I lost my dp midway through and had to wear so many hats I was relying on others for consistency. I’ll have to edit about an hour of various clips that take place in this classroom, thus match all lighting. I simply 3 way color corrected blacks, whites, and skintones and kept that consistent from clip to clip in the classroom. I then used the brightness filter and brought it up 1 notch to 2 and mixed it at 52. I think it matches okay. I’d be interested in your opinion. It would only take a minute to watch the trailer here – https://www.therealonenationundergod.com

One question I have is if I get this on a big screen will the added brightness through the filter look hochy? Any suggestions in terms of making it look as good and authentic as possible are appreciated.

    Thanks again!
    joe
