Mix the basic stereo audio to focus on the sounds between around 350Hz and 12.5KHz. Don’t completely toss the other frequencies, just roll them off.

yeah, I know. i had to get rid of a lot of bass for it not to distort even when levels were below -6. the bass made the sound richer and fuller. i agree.

Thanks for your input.

The reality is that it has to sound good on what your prospects could be watching it on. Thus, one of my prospects might have a crappy visio 24″ or something similar so if i can make it sound good on the worst it will sound good everywhere else. In other words a dynamic sound is not going to sound good on a tv that has a crappy sound system as most dynamic sounds will need at least some kind of subwoofer. joe

That .83 is a good shape. It works well. Is it like a standard? I coupled it with a remove low frequency filter in fcpx and it seems to be taking the distortion out globally without me having to mess anymore with single clips and giving the sound i sought. Thank you so much i really appreciate it. If there’s anything else you do to sweeten the final mix please share. Thanks again. joe

Hi Paul,

To clarify, I wanted to give it a try in fcpx so i exported the mix as a wav and set graphic equalizer as close to what you recommended for the entire 2 hr clip. In fcpx i don’t have the ability to gauge or go as low as you go in your software, thus i can’t set the Q value to .83 as you did but can visually set it up similar to what you did.

This will be my best bet at limiting bass distortion on HD tvs while keeping a fuller sound via the bass boost that was applied throughout project?

Would the below shape in terms of doing away with my original bass boost that was applied to most clips.

Seems it would be best to go into the specific clips where there’s distortion and messing with those while leaving the non distorted clips as is.

1. Relative to the lowcut/lowpass filter would that give the same effect as using limiter in Logic in fcpx?

2. When you say lowcut / lowpass the only low i see in fcpx in the effects browser are aulowpass, aulowshelp and lowtech. I take it you’re referring to aulowpass?

3. Would this filter be applied only to dialogue or entire mix (dial, music, se)?

4. I’m new to fcpx and am not an expert audio person. I know I can bring up the graphic equalizer and adjust visually via the ten points from bass to treble, but when you say you cut off dialogue at 60hz, in the graphic equalizer, are you saying on the horizontal axis, the second point on the left of the ten points in the graphic equalizer is flattened or is moved down to 0db?

I got 16gig of ram now and nothing’s changed. I have a 4tb internal coming and hoping that will make a major difference. It’s a 2 hour project and i was told by apple not to upgrade to maverick in the middle of the project. they recommended i finish it then upgrade to maverick and fcpx 10.1. I’m wondering if my graphics card would be the culprit of the beach ball. my present card is ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB. Obviously i’d prefer not to have to buy another card. do you know if this could be making for the problem.

Does fcpx have a means to create a folder/file that has all the files connected to it as tcp 7 had ( I think it was called Media Manager) as i want to put all the files on the new 4tb internal.

Thanks for sending the app. – cool.

My present project was originally in the hands of another editor on a different mac. With that in mind
when I open the Project Details in your app and see the Effects Paths am I looking at the original paths from the former editor that he had on his computer or does it only show present paths on the computer and external HDDs I’m presently operating on.

Reason I ask is because I can see the exact Missing Effect that fcpx points out in your app but I cannot find the path on my computer or external drives. On the contrary when I look at all the EVent files Found and Not Found from your app I can find them all on my external HDD.

If I see the Missing Effect path in your App that fcpx points out does it mean that path is on my present mac or externals?
