You don’t set an output codec when you create a composition, but rather when you render. The codec options are listed inside the Output Module > Format Options > Compression type:

Perfect! Thank you so much, Walter.

I dabbled in expressions a few years back, then let those skills kind of fall by the wayside. I’m inspired to brush up on them again now.

I think I’ll start with Chris & Trish Meyer’s Deeper Modes of Expression series over at ProVideo Coalition.

    Thanks again!

    Are you on CS4?
I’ve been running into a similar problem when rotoscoping in CS4 on my MB Pro. We both have inadequate RAM, and I suspect that might be a contributing factor, though I never experienced it with CS3.
My 1st fix was to switch to 16 or 32 bpc.
This helped out a bit, for some reason, but ultimately I had to render in segments.
Fortunately my destination was FCP, so I was able to stitch the clips together.
In my case the roto masks were slipping during render.
I, too, would appreciate some insight into possible causes, as this is this 1st time I’ve ever encountered the issue.

That is indeed what’s happening. The problem is that I can’t seem to get it back into position.
I admit to being terrible at expressions. I was able to get it -the offset point- into the correct position horizontally by tagging on -470 after the expression,
    so that it reads thus:

    thisComp.layer(“Tony High School.jpg 2”).transform.position-470

I could see that the initial Distortion Mesh Offset point originated at the top left corner of my comp which is 720 by 480, and for no go reason really I tried a value of 480 just to see if I could get the distortion point back. I did but it was a little off horizontally so I changed it to 470 and now it’s exactly where I need it – horizontally.

So for anyone with even the most rudimentary knowledge of expressions –
how to I also offset it vertically in the expression? Do I need an array? I just need it to offset about 150 pixels upward.

This just seems too basic to post to the Expressions forum.

    Both layers are 2d.

Don’t know for sure, but couldn’t you draw a Region of Interest around the edge of the Comp window?

February 1, 2011 at 5:09 am in reply to: Faster way to edit audio and video?

To quote the character Manuel from Fawlty Towers-
    “¿Que?”

I have been doing a lot of green screen commercials and need to find a better to get the actor in and out

What’s wrong with the way your actor gets in and out?

I then edit the audio and bring both into motion

Wouldn’t the Motion forum be a more appropriate venue for your question?

    2) Higher better actors but might not solve the problem

Nah, probably not. Drugs usually impede performance.

    3) find a video editor that will allow me to link the audio so i can make the cuts then export the audio back to cubase.

Why won’t the editor allow you to do that? Who does he think he is?
    Do you mean editing app?
You have Motion, so you have Final Cut Pro. That one’s pretty good for syncing material.

There is an easier way – Motion Tracking.
Are you running CS4 or CS5? Then learn how to use Mocha. It’s designed specifically for this type of work.

Here is a good tutorial to get you up to speed.
