Maybe this tut would be helpful?

I wouldn’t call myself a legend, but I appreciate the compliment;)

CC Time Blend will give you no result at all if you just apply it to the footage. Definitely watch the tut, as its operation is counter-intuitive to say the least.

The gist, though, is that you apply the effect twice. The bottom copy you set to Copy, the top copy set to Paste.

Then start adjusting the parameters of the top one.

I’m not aware of a way in AE without manually keyframing the audio levels. Do you have Final Cut Pro? It has Dialogue Normalization, which does exactly what you want. Premiere and Soundbooth have something similar.
For all of AE great strengths, audio finessing isn’t one of them.

Not sure how you’re defining opaque, but basically it means you can’t see through it at all.
Do you mean transparent, or semi-transparent?
Have you tried experimenting with the various Blend Modes?

Looks like banding in the shadows. Try uping your Shadow Map Resolution in the Composition Settings > Advanced Tab > Options button.

And if you’re working in 8 bit, try switching to 16 or 32.

Check File > Scripts to see if you have Scale Comp. That’s what you need. If you don’t see it, look in the AE application’s Scripts folder and see if there is a subfolder called Demos (that’s where it was in CS3). If it’s in there, drag it to the main Scripts folder and restart.
This should accomplish exactly what you want.

CC Time Blend is what you want.

    Here’s a great tut.

Use Time Blend FX if you want to give the trails an interesting color, motion, etc.

Sometimes just writing out the question helps trigger a solution.

Oh no, that’s a horrible way to make an already horrible task even more horrible. Please, please have a look here for better ways.
