Yep, and it was 16-bit, but I still don’t understand why in my sequence settings would be 24 bit when I match them to a clip while importing….

Thanks JC,
What you said confirms my suspicions that Final Cut cannot be completely trusted. My situation was that I received the self-contained QT file and needed to make sure it met the specs for the test screening I mentioned, so I could not go into FCP and see the original edit/media.
I agree that play back should be fine with 16 bit, but when I enquired I was told it would be problematic, so I just wanted to “play it safe” and delivery the file exactly as requested.
Thank you (as well as thank you Nick who had similar questions)!

Thank you Steve.
That is my issue though, it seems to be 16 bit according to quicktime, but the FCP 7 sequence I create by importing the clip when choosing to match sequence to clip settings set it to 24bit. Which has me confused – what do I actually have at the present moment ?
Also, since my sequence already sets itself to 24 bit, does this mean if I try to re-export I will wind up with 16 bit again for some reason?

Hello,
I am experiencing this issue now because I am working on an older project and getting ready to burn it to DVD for screening.
I specifically noticed this on a few dark frames of my source footage and the newly generated title sequence I created (which makes sense based on what your saying about generated blacks).
Would you have any further info on this issue? Also, do you know if it would be possible to re-render at a higher bit-rate and then export to get rid of the lines?
I am dealing with a DV 720×480 project at 29.97. Thanks in advanced for any help!

August 23, 2012 at 1:24 am in reply to: Authoring a DVD with scrolling credits created from a PSDAnother issue has shown, up, I notice that my source file also has 3 faint black lines on the right side of the fram running vertically? At first I thought it was just my encoding mistakes, but I can see it’s in the original QT file that I was given.
Any thoughts on what would cause these? Thanks!

Hmm, I did some searching around I came across someone saying that it does just that as long as it’s CS5 or older, which in my case it is.

Woops…One more question, while I understand 720×480 is standard for DVD and NTSC, does this mean that my video was “squished” or distorted by 6 pixels if my source file was 720×486?
I used the standard 29.97 preset which I believe is why encore didn’t allow me to change it to 720×486 when I originally tried…
Or is it that encore and/or any DVD authoring program preserves the dimension ratio?

Great, thank you!

I believe so. It was shot on a panasonic p2 camera (I think-this was before me). And the sequence settings are 720×486 at 29.97 fps with the field dominance set to lower (which to my understanding is interlaced), is that correct? Thanks again.
