    Hi Paul:

    Thanks for the idea.

So, if I followed your instructions correctly, I tested by not capturing to the external HD, but just directing it onto my local HD? That is what I did, with the same results..a few minutes pass and then the capture encounters a TC issue.

Thanks Chad. I’m capturing to an external HD, (Glyph, 1T, brand spankin’ new)…i thought i had set up FCP to ignore breaks in TC, but enlighten me again to make sure i have done it in the correct spot…and of course any other advice, since i’m feeling that i’m running low on possible solutions..thanks, joe

It appears, upon further testing, that I’m dealing with timecode breaks, although when I look at the original footage, I don’t see any. So I suppose this is phantom timecode issues, but I haven’t experienced this before in recent projects.

The only factor that is different is the use of DVCAM tapes vs. mini dv tapes, but I can’t imagine that would make a difference?

    Some enlightenment please…joe

Mark: this makes total sense! Where would those render files be? Not that it makes a lot of difference, but when my HD was running low, I made space (12gigs) and it still echoed the same error message. That is why I am asking where…b/c maybe I am not looking in the right place. thanks so much, joe

Well, I was told by the posthouse to export a QT (high quality) file so they could burn onto a DVD. So yes, it’s a QT Movie that is 4 gigs!…ah, i’m out of my league here, (i know) so I just need some workflow guidance to get me back on track…what are the best steps to exporting a 2.5hr project (with the best quality) to be burned onto a DVD. I’ve never had to use the compressor before either since I burn most of my projects straight to DVD or post them on the web.

Thanks, never done this before…where can I find the steps to do this?

BTW, I”m not making the final DVD, the post house is, so I was just following their directions to make a QT file that they would burn onto a DVD…is this still the right path? Need to get this done ASAP.

Just so I’m clear (and I wasn’t) I am trying to export to QT movie as the final to be burned onto a DVD. I get the points you make, thank you. Just so I’m clear, is a QT Ref Movie something different. This project goes to DVD after this step. ( I’m a short form editor and NEVER deal with large projects like this)

    As I temp workaround:
Am I in any danger to choose not to see the warning message for dropped frames when I am working (specifically in the multicam mode) so that I can continue to use the fast/on the fly feature (by selecting the various windows in the viewer) as the clip plays in the timeline?

    Jeff:
Thanks. I will give this a shot. I am assuming as I upgrade software, hardware needs it eventually too.
