I am about to try this. What about the settings for rate conversion in frame controls? I notice it is set to FAST but there is an option for BEST.. and what about the deinterlace control as well? Is it only the ONE setting I should change?

lol and as for the spelling mistakes guys, good catch. It is just a rough copy anywho and it was only a 2 minute export so luckily it wasn’t any full renders or anything.

Thanks for that piece of advise I will keep that in mind moving forward. Can anyone advise me on one last things here.

let’s say I have my file which is 1 hr 40 mins. So i need to the compressor setting of 120min for DVD. Is there anything needing adjusting other then the drag and drop? What can i adjust to make things nice but still fit?

    Thanks

Also, do you have a base rule or thumb for frame controls and data rate? I understand not every project is the same but Im trying to understand the basics and that sort of thing.

    Thanks

ahh geez I think I just figured it out.. the Share function burns to 720×480 which is probably having an effect on the footage. Does this make sense?

Ok that makes sense. I just heard that AE’s exporting was not the greatest and didn’t know about AME so I was gonna go back to FCP.

Might be somewhat of a newbie question here but I have never done a feature length where I was going to use AE. If I wanted to grade certain scenes one way and others another way what is the process? The way Im picturing AE is the timeline with my one exported file.. how could i just edit certain portions?

    Thanks

February 20, 2011 at 8:02 pm in reply to: Mics for documentary: lav and shotgun?

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions. I have figured out some great set ups in the past day which will eliminate my need for a wireless setup on the lav.

The ME66 seems like a great mic from the research I did, more of a low – mid end PRO mic vs a high end consumer mic sort of thing. Actually was looking at a pair of them with k6 for about $400 so I might check those out. Any other ideas on a shotgun?

How about a wired lav? Say i spend anywhere between 200 and 400 for a wired lav. Any ideas?

    Thanks guys!

Thanks for the reply! The type of wireless system we would like is a wireless one but the receiver doesn’t have to be on camera as we will have access to power when we do those types of shots. I understand also that NON on camera receiver kits tend to run a lot cheaper as well.

The thing with renting is we do a lot of our shooting for this stuff at random times through months as things progress but sometimes it is like 7 days straight. The cost of renting usually gets up there very fast and the hassle of going there and back, possible late fees, availability etc is not something we wanna deal with all that much for the project.

Would JUST a shotgun for both settings be ok? Or would having both be good for each given setting? Any other options?

    Thanks
    Joe
