  • OK sounds great, thanks for the response. There is a mix of diff compressors. Since I have never done this workflow before, how would you recommend converting the footage?

    Thanks

Thanks for the responses everyone. Forgive my lack of knowledge on the subject but I feel I am have a few disconnects here.

I look at the AJA T-Tap for example and I see HDMI and SDI connections, but my monitors go from XLR to 1/4″ connection it seems there is another device needed to monitor whats coming from my mac?

Also, since I am using a Sony FS100 which shoots on SD, I could go HDMI into a device like the Blackmagic Ultrastudio, but from there can I get my footage onto my iMac?

I guess I am confused because I have only ever used the work flow of taking out my SD card and throwing it into our reader and then log and transferring. So it’s hard for me to see how the workflow would change, what I would need and what my benefits would be.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the info!
Will these devices let me do what I need to do with sounds as well? Also does it speed up Log & Transfer times by any chance?

September 4, 2012 at 2:15 pm in reply to: Hardware Question for Using Final Cut Pro

Thanks for all of the comments guys.

I guess if I had to choose a platform I would say we are 99% going to stick with FInal Cut Pro as our main editing suite as we are most used to it. Is Premiere Pro just as good though? I have heard it isn’t quite there.. but could have all been opinion.

We will still use After Effects from time to time but not a ton.

I continue to research beyond this thread and it seems the more and more I look the new iMac is the more popular/better solution. Not to say better as in its best for everyone, but more so just that it appears that you can do A LOT for the price and you aren’t missing a whole lot. It may not be as easy to switch out all the internals but seems you can get what you need either way. Plus the more and more I look it appears Apple will not be doing much to the Pro’s in years to come. lol in the end I still feel more confused because naturally you would think the ability to switch in and out hardware at your fingertips would be the better bet.. but I can’t say that I know enough about the audio/video IO’s and graphics cards etc to truly know what I need. Same with harddrive or raid encasings. What are the best options other than thunderbolt to maintain speed? eSata? fibre?

Don’t mean to sound redundant or anything just spitting out my thoughts to see if it triggers different thoughts on my situation.

    Thanks again!
    Peace

March 10, 2012 at 8:23 pm in reply to: Audio rendering.. Pops and clicks

Hey brother, are you using an MP3 format for the audio? I have found in my experience if the format is MP3 i get those pops and clicks. Final Cut often likes to have a WAV or AIFF file. What i usually do is take my MP3’s an pop them into Logic and export an AIFF. If that isn’t available to you there are some other conversion programs out there I’m just not sure of them as I have Logic. Audacity might work too.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Tina,

Thanks for the response. I must say I dropped the ball for the FS100 cards as one of them was working and the only reasont he 2nd one didnt work was cause there was nothing on it. Took a quick video and now that one works.

The problem still exists with the 60D cards. Now a new piece to the problem. When i plug it into my card reader for my imac it works.. but when I plug it into my laptop.. it doesn’t. I cannot figure out why as file structures and everything are OK and since they work on another computer it is clear the problem is with my laptop. Just not sure how to diagnose it at all.

Ya I am going to give it another shot. Our final wont be out till end of Aug or early Sept so lots of time to play. I’m about ready to take a bath on the whole thing anyway. My biggest “piss off” is how the text looks. Might try making an image in PS with my text vs. using the text slug from FCP. Seem to have better results.

    Thanks!

    Resize Filter: Better
Output Fields: Same as source (some suggested my issude with jagged lines is a field issue, may have to do with this)
    Deinterlace: Fast

    Any suggestions?

    Also for Quality
bit rate avg was 5 and max was 7. reason i left it low for my 5 minutes snippet is because the full length will be around 2 hrs so i used a compressor setting that will let me fit 2 hours on the disc.

Also as a thought, the file format for the settings i used was mpeg 2. Would changing that to h246 make it better?
