Sorry,,, to many typos,,, new keyboard…

select the clip,,, right-click that clip,,, and you’ll see a selection for ‘unlink’

that’s gonna separate the audio from the video…

It’s important to remember to now UN-select by clicking anywhere you like that is not that same clip,,
then and only then will you be able to select the audio and notice the video is not linked to it,,
thus ,, press del and audio is no more..

    cheers

Don’t mean to hijack but, what if I ran dvx at 30p and took b-roll from a cheap 60i cam ??

I did this and started a PP2 Pro project as 30p (can’t remember if I dropped frames)..

What say you in this scenario?

    thnx

Take a deep breath,,, now , let it out slow,,,

When it comes to things AE, that is the ‘nature of the beast’…

The App is, to say the least, intense and filled with great functions so recognize now that it will be a lil slow at the start as AE is a professional grade tool.

The start of a comp is important,, you will need to do a ,,,
Composition > New Composition ,,, which presents a window for setting up the comp’s dimensions and length…
The length for most needs is kept to 5 to 10 seconds on a nominal computer because as you noticed the files are large and memory intensive. Also most special FX a presented as a ‘cool flash in the pan’ that gets incorporated with many cuts for narratives.
That said. check to see what your comp settings are and pay close attention to it’s length. If you see
’00:50:00:00′ ,,, that’s one long AE comp “00:00:05:00′ is a better starting point.

Once you are in the app and working with the comp, be careful of the timeline panel, off to the right is where the graphical representation of your layers are depicted. Note the Grey Bars (there are two) with two blue ends. One lives on top (for Navigation) the other is just below the numbers you see there (that’s the Work Area Bar).
These bars effect the way AE treats your comp specifically the lower of the two (Work Area) if accidentally moved will cause all kinds of problems, IF you don’t know it moved. Don’t assume it should not be moved just be aware of it and tae situation you’ve described sounds to me like any of the items I’ve mentioned are possibly the cause.

Sorry if I’m long winded or off the marjk just tring to help and am not sure how much do or do not know. Hope I am helping.

    cheers

P.S. goto the Cows’ video tutorials on AE and you’ll find very generous members teaching step by step.

  • Hi April
If I understand what you are saying ,,,

It sounds like you started the project in a 720p or higher, HD Preset.
When you do that it all looks good while you’re in the app working and doing cuts and such,,,
but if you burn a dvd you’ll see the frame is off center and nothing is right.

You say “I created a 16:9 project using 4:3 quality clips in order to create the illusion”….. etc

I’m taking this to mean, correct me if I’m wrong, that you shot ‘Standard Definition’ video on a ]Standard Definition’ camera and used a 16*9 preset in the editor to conform your clips to 16*9,,, that does not work

16*9 and 4*3 are hard and fast dimensions in your camera. A 4*3 camera can produce 16*9 by using ‘LetterBox’ , and ‘Squeeze” modes, or by using special lens, or lastly by cropping the footage.

    Am I helping at all?

    Hi Lorraine

I’m thinking what you want is to create a sub-clip with the ‘IN’ and ‘OUT’ points that represent the portion you’re interested in.
I really don’t do things that way but I can see how the need may arise,,, check the ‘HELP’ for ‘Sub-clips’ as this is my most educated approach.

    cheers
