Thank you both for some really good input. I know a lot of times we sell ourselves short because we want the job and our passion for doing this type of work sometimes clouds our better judgement. This usually results in us underselling ourselves and when we are putting in the long hours for the small payoff we regret it.

What I have done with your input is assess all the aspects of what is needed and the time it would take to complete it. Once I had a total time and effort, I started playing with numbers, dividing what I would charge by the amount of hours and got an hourly rate. I now can assess whether or not my time is worth what I will charge.

Thanks again for sharing your insight!

  • Peter – Thank you! Great information. I do have a Merlin SteadyCam that I bought for my XH-A1, however it has proven to be very unstable. Maybe it would work better with the T2i. I will have to try it. Because of the Audio considerations, I believe I will shoot all voice required shots with the XH-A1 and use the T2i for B-Roll and in shop shots.

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

If I only knew what to charge now….

    Regards,
    Joe
