DO NOT GO TO V I S T A ! !
How was that for being emphatic? I am s survivor (barely) of the whole XP Pro to Vista process. I bought into the initial hype that vista / Direct-X 10 would be better for video editing. So I bought the ultimate version and a NVIDIA 8600 card.
It was a nightmare! It took me a good month just to try to get my applications to work. I was using PP2 at the time and I never got it to work totally. Scroll bars and other user interface navigators didn’t work. Once CS3 was released I bought that in hopes that it would play much better with Vista. The truth is that it does behave better, but there are still major performance issues. I have invested so much time in trying to make everything work and even though it does, with less capability (like vista doesn’t support a second monitor for viewing your edit in full screen), the lack of performance makes me want to go back to the days of XP pro and my old wimpy ATI 256mb card.
If I can ever get a break between projects, I will go back. It just seems like I am always caught in between projects and can not afford the time it will take to go back. So for now I am stuck in Vista Hell!

Joe
