You are forgetting that it will take just as much time to transcode to MPEG-2 in Premiere as it will in Encore.
Either way is fine. Where you choose to spend your time is your choice.

Not really – you won’t save any time by encoding to MPEG-2 from Premiere, as it’ll take just as long to encode there as it would in Encore.
But encoding to MPEG-2 in either application is just fine…wherever you happen to like to spend your time. 🙂

Encore will accept AVI or MPEG-2, and Encore and Premiere use the same MPEG-2 encoder, so the only question is really where you want to encode your file.
If you’re familiar with the MPEG-2 specification and do your own bit budget, you could encode in Premiere – but Encore can do it automatically with your AVI at build time, or when you choose Transcode Now.

I don’t understand…what is “First Stop”? Do you mean “First Play”?
In Encore, assets are video, audio, and image files, and these don’t get linked to anything. You link timelines, chapters, playlists, buttons, and menus. What are you trying to unlink?

The xmp and xmpses files contain data about the associated file. I’d keep them, just in case I ever wanted to use the video in Encore again.
If you don’t intend to use the video ever again in Encore, you can nuke them.

It could be the latest version of QuickTime, which may introduce a transcoding to Flash problem in Encore CS3.
You might want to search this forum, and Adobe’s U2U forum and support site for more information on this.

I don’t like to contradict you, but the slider in PowerDVD, at least in the versions I have used, is a seek control, not a speed control. PowerDVD’s speed control is a shuttle wheel.
And all the DVDs produced in all the versions of Encore that I have authored with can be scrubbed in PowerDVD.

Also note that both Premiere and Encore CS3 are capable of encoding to H.264 for Blu-ray or MPEG-2 for Blu-ray.
Which app you choose to encode in is up to you.

If you must have more than 99 chapters (and thus, two or more timelines), then you’ll have to live with it.
You can try putting the two timelines into a single playlist – that may work, or not (I can’t remember off the top of my head).
