Try removing all end actions from the timelines…do they crash then?

Select the sequence, then choose File > Export > Adobe Media Encoder.

    Thanks for posting the file.

What you are seeing is the highlight layer (=1) being distorted as it’s converted into the correct format for button highlights. It’s jarring because you have fading opacity in the artwork of the highlight layer, and that’s being (unavoidably) crushed in the highlight conversion process.

In DVD-Video, button highlights are a 2 bit indexed graphical overlay. What this means in practical terms is that the artwork highlight layer cannot have more than one opacity, so no soft strokes such as you have, no drop shadows, glows etc…just full on pixels for the highlight layer.

Now if you want to avoid this limitation by not using highlight layers, you can get what you want from this button by creating multiple menus, and then switching to the next menu using the button auto-activate feature. Note that this will be a lot of work if you have multiple buttons and menus.

I’ve created hundreds of menus in Photoshop and used them in Encore, and have never seen this problem.

Maybe you could post the PSD someplace, and I can look at it on my system?

It’s probably just a rendering artifact in the display of the Menu editor. Have you tried Previewing the menu (in Encore Preview mode)?

Hard to answer without more information. You mentioned you exported it from Premiere Pro 7…do you mean version 1 of Premiere Pro?

If so, have you tried exporting it to MPEG-2 for DVD directly from PPro, using a widescreen preset?

[Robert Lanford] “You would think copy/pasting sequences, and/or import/exporting them, would be a basic function.”

Not in a DVD authoring software. Its basic function is to build DVD-Video discs.

No, Encore supports having only one project opened at a time (and no copy/paste between projects).

Instead, do a SaveAs on your project, and then delete what you no longer need in your Project window.

There’s no way in the DVD-Video format to actually mute audio in a menu. As a workaround, you could link the “mute” button to an otherwise identical menu without audio.

It’s probably too late, but don’t do a clean install. Instead, quite Encore, and then search for Encore’s AppPreferences.xml and ProjectPrefs.xml files, and delete them.

    Relaunch, and then try Previewing.
