You could use an override from the menu button to replace the end action of the timeline.

    Hi David,

Essentially the same thing. Here’s what’s happening: when you link a video thumbnail button to the menu, it grabs a frame from the menu and puts it into the thumbnail layer (%). This happens whenever you link a video thumbnail button to a timeline or menu. In the case of the menu, when you link a video thumbnail button, you will get something like what you are seeing. This is correct behavior. Does that make sense to you? If not, ask away, and I will try again.

Now here’s the part that confuses me: normally, the simple act of relinking a rendered motion menu would cause it to need to be re-rendered, so I’m stumped as to why your motion menus continue to play in Preview mode…it should not.

So if you go to the menu showing this behavior now, and adjust a button’s position, does the menu still preview rendered (e.g. motion video plays back)? If so, I would very much like to know how you got this trick to happen. Can you make it happen in a new project? If so, what are the steps to make it happen, starting at the beginning? Formatted like so:

    1. Create a new project
    2. Import a menu
    3. Go to the Properties palette and link button 1 to timeline 1 with the pickwhip
    4. Etc., etc

    Thanks,
    Joe

    OK, saw the film. 😉

It looks like the rendered motion menu is not getting dirtied (marked for re-rendering) when you relink the buttons to themselves. If you try this in a new project, does it happen?

BTW, the link behavior in Preview is correct…since you linked each button to itself, when you click one it should return to the menu.

Another tip: if you reposition a button, does it force you to re-render the motion menu?

Sorry, Encore does not support the Return command…nor do many DVD players. It’s purpose is to navigate hierarchies of menus (menu to parent menu), much like a browser Back button.

If you are in a timeline, use the Return to Last Menu link command in the Menu Remote property of the timeline to return to your last menu. If you are in a menu, you should add a button that links to the menu you want users to return to.

Check your button routing…sounds like something is off. If necessary, you may need to manually route the buttons.

  • How could it matter? Well, that’s what I’m trying to find out- what you describe doesn’t happen for me.

More likely, it’s an issue with your project (I’ll still investigate the external drive scenario). If you create a new project with a single AVI file imported from your external drive, add it to a timeline, then build a DVD folder and close, saving the project, does it still happen?

  • Brodd, what’s the path to your external disc? And the device- is it USB2 or Firewire?

    Thanks,
    Joe

  • Sorry if I misunderstood you, Dave. I thought from your original comment that you were suggesting using MPEG-2 over AVI in Encore. The point I was trying to make was that what Brodd is describing should not happen, and does not happen for me. Not that it can’t happen.

Which is why I was asking to get to the root of the problem, and not necessarily take a detour that might solve the immediate problem, but not the problem Brodd is seeing.

  • Dave, there is some other problem occurring.

If you transcode an AVI and save the project, you should never have to transcode it in that project again- this is regardless of whether Automatic or a transcoding preset is used.

I’d like to find out the nature of the problem Brodd is seeing, not work around it.
