Oh wait, I just realized that putting a keyframe in the “Master” also creates keyframes for all the other nodes in the exact same spot. So this is a huge discovery for me, and answers the first part of my question.
However, the second part of my question still stands. Can I adjust the Output gain for all my nodes at the same time without having to do each one separately?

I’ll go in to more detail, since there was a huge lack of it in my first post, so I don’t blame anyone for not getting the question 😉
What I mean by “Master Node” is the keyframe section called “Master” right above the first node in the “Keyframes” tab.
And what I mean by “Gain” is the “Key Output Gain” under the “Key” tab.
So what I am asking is, can I adjust the Key Output Gain on all my nodes at the same time (by adjusting the Master “Node”(?)), and can I animate it as a separate node?

I chose to go the sequence route… So far so good in the conform tab, no crashes yet while cutting my sequence.
I really hope that it’s not a case of my graphics card dying. I found a temporary solution to my problem by lowering my Tmeline and Video Monitoring resolution to 720p. Now I am able to work on the entire project without it crashing, but your suggestion is going to come in handy because I’m gonna need to raise it back up to 1080p in the end to deliver my footage.
Resolve 9 does work on my Macbook Pro and I’ve been doing solid work with it for over a year. There is actually a good number of people who use my hardware according to forums that I’ve been on. Just recently I was on the set of a Sprint commercial and the colourist was receiving dailies straight to his Macbook Pro, he was using Resolve 9 Lite.
it’s a quick way to work on Arri Raw footage without wasting anye time, and they could also show a rough grade to their client on the day of the shoot to ease any concerns about the look of the finished product.

Ok, I just figured out that to downgrade all I had to do was to run the installer for Resolve 9 Lite again, which is very unusual since most applications don’t have the same user friendly option of going back. Had I been a more rational and pragmatic user, then I would have never tried to install version 9 Lite without uninstalling version 11 first, and hence I would have never found out that downgrading is as simple as running the installer of the former program.
I’m really happy that I can work on all my projects again, however this still didn’t solve the issue I am having after upgrading to Davinci Resolve 11. The new program crashes when I load any of my projects, and I haven’t been able to find a solution to this anywhere.
if someone has had this issue after upgrading to Resolve 11 on a mac, let me know, even if you didn’t find a solution. I would still be interested to know that I am not the only one who has this bug.

Here’s a good tutorial that taught me everything I needed about round trips from Resolve to Premiere Pro. You have to export proxy files from Resolve for editing in Premiere, and then you export an XML file from Premiere which is essentially your sequence that you can import back in to Resolve. The main issue with this workflow is that you can’t use any effects, time changes or transitions in Premiere as Resolve doesn’t recognize them, so your only options are to cut your clips and sort them on your timeline.
Just make sure that you set all your setting like in the video and you should be fine.

Thanks Dave! You just saved me a few days worth of insanity with all that it implies. I copy/pasted the nested comp several times above all my problematic layers and used every instance of it as a separate Alpha Matte for each one of them. That cleared up the problem really well.

Now everything makes sense, thanks for explaining that in detail Glenn. i should make a note of thinking out of the box when it comes to post production workflows, as it turns out I have all the capabilities I need right under my nose with just two pieces of software.

That’s a good idea Glenn, but my problem is that I would like to use Davinci Resolve for grading the key that I got from After Effects. When I key out the green screen behind my subject in AE, I am then left with a transparent background that has no information. I would like to do color correction on that video, the transparent one that I exported from AE. I need to use seperate software for keying and for grading.
Is Davinci Resolve 12 able to work with transparent videos/alpha channels or is my only option to put my badly lit subject on a background and grade him/her in the finished shot by using a mask around the subject?
