It does not distort or damage the original file in any way. Premiere only reads the original file then adds whatever adjustments you’ve made to it in the program. You can export the clips from your timeline to use in another project or import the project to another.

Adobe TV has a good selection of introductory videos for each program. Plus, I’ve always found it well worth the $25 to get a one month subscription to lynda.com and soak up all you can for 30 days. After that your brain will be full and ready to edit.

Like Ann says, move you cursor to the little bar under the wrench icon in the Sequence window (circled in red) just above your A1 audio track. You should be able to click, hold, and pull down to reveal the video tracks above.

Put a Black Video clip on top of both layers at the beginning and then put a Cross Dissolve at the end of the Black Clip. Easiest way to fade from black when you have multiple layers.

Duplicate the clip and place it in the track above it. Use the Crop effect (Effects/Transform/Crop) to crop the top clip down to a small area, like shown in the picture below. Then use the Motion tool to slide it to the right to cover over the red smudge. Add a little bit of feathering in the Crop tool to smooth out any edges. This will only work if his head never crosses in front of the smudge.

Try using the Media Browser inside Premiere. It should read the folder/file structures. Once you navigate to the files you want, highlight them, and right-click to import.
