You are going to want to use the Playlength feature when your sequences are longer than 25 minutes and/or contain more than a few tracks. Unfortunately, MC doesn’t handle those larger sequences that well. Fortunately, there is the Playlength feature.
Open the Command Palette and find the button labeled “PL” (under the PLAY tab), map it to a key or button, and press it.
You will see the color of your play button has changed. You can now only play forward one minute or backward one minute. After a minute in either direction, MC stops. You press stop and play again to continue. The upside is that you will no longer have to wait forever for MC to catch up when you make a simple adjustment to a sequence.
What this feature does is limit the playback buffer MC makes whenever you do anything.
Press the PL button again to turn the feature off.
The default setting is 1 minute, but that is often too limiting. I like using 4 or 6 minutes, so you can work on a scene or sequence without the machine stopping playback.
To change the playlength duration, open the console (CMD-6 on Mac or CTRL-6 on PC), and type “playlength 4” or “playlength 6” (or whatever the amount of minutes you prefer.

Grimm Audio has LevelNorm (not expensive), which will normalize your mix to EBU R128 (or A/85). Orban has a free meter that does R128. Many options out there.

Rather than transcoding the AMA-linked DNxHD175 sequence, consolidate it. That way, no unnecessary recompression will happen.

Note that Matrox will stop supporting MC for its products. May not be the best investment.

Classic. MC sucks less than the competition. This used to be a tool that catered professionals.

This is soooooo stupid in MC. You’d think they knew that editors need to go easy on their eyes. I guess not.

That page also features a 40sec countdown clock for broadcast masters. Can be used in any project format since it is built as 1fps.

Step #1: treat the room.
If you skip this, you won’t get to the point where you can rely on what your ears are telling you.
There are many not so expensive solutions for room treatment. I got myself some GiK Acoustic panels a few years back (and brought in someone who could advice me on what to get and where to put it), and it made a world of difference.

Are you going to be doing any conforming in Avid MC, or is this just creative editorial? If the latter, just ask for letterboxed MXF’s and be done with it, I’d say.
