The new AJA software works very well too. If I wasn’t uprezzing to HD I would be using it for archival capture.

I’m doing hundreds of hours of DV, Betacam, and 3/4 with the BMD capture software through a BMD Teranex. Works great.

Not if you are planning on spending your semi-retirement on non paying projects. Which I have been doing for the last few days without having to think about inane comments like yours, David. Go ahead and be a sap for a system that keeps you in fealty for the rest of your life. I’ll stick with products like FCPX, Resolve, and even Media 100 to always have access to my projects. That took exactly one minute out of my work day.

There really isn’t a program to replace Aperture regarding image manipulation and RAW processing combined with DAM (digital asset mangement, photos). Capture One seems to be the best choice for RAW processing, but their asset management is weak. They acquired what used to be iView Media Pro, which was screwed up and abandoned by Microsoft as Expression. It now works quite well on its own as Media Pro which also will open the old iView catalogs. It is rumored they will be integrating that database engine with Capture One. At that point, if it works, it could be a real contender.
I’m going to keep using Aperture 3.6 on Yosemite while exporting my terabyte of photos to organized folders so I can use the perpetual version of LightRoom 6 in parallel if necessary. Lightroom is a decent RAW converter, but weak on asset management. Anything you have done using adjustments to photos in Aperture will need to be exported as TIFF or if not as important, JPEG. Just bought a new MacBook Pro Retina as Yosemite is the last version of Aperture, 3.6, it will run on. That and my 2013 nMP and 2012 Mac Pro tower. Should keep me going for a few years on my favorite photo program. This, to me, is a bigger screw up from Apple than FCPX, which I am liking. Must have had to do with lower level changes in OSX going forward.

I saw the Yardbirds in late ’67 or early ’68 at the gym at Washignton U. in St. Louis where I was pre-med about to degenerate to Art History, for which I am eternally grateful. If you can believe it, they were opening for Ramsey Lewis of “In Crowd” fame. Frat boys loved him. Not positive who Yardbirds lead guitar lineup was then, but it was at least two of the greats. Made up my mind there and then that R&R was my future and not General Practice. Absolutely mind blowing.

Yamaha has been researching synths at least since the early ’70’s. When I was at CalArts 70-72 they had a couple of engineers there stealing ideas from the Buchla and Moog synthesizers at the School of Music there. That being said, they still make awesome traditional Grand pianos.

I only started to apply myself to it about a month ago. I sure as heck didn’t learn Media Composer in a month of my spare time. It is also a lot deeper than it first appears. And sorry, I’m only trying to keep up with the FCPX detractors. Pretty thick around here.
