They both have demo versions, and there’s no better way to see how they work for you than trying them out for yourself. Other than that, as a Mac user I am not familiar with World Machine at all, but I do know that VUE xStream integrates directly into C4D, which is an obvious plus for compatibility. It is also considerably more expensive than the other VUE options, which also brings into question how much you are willing to pay.

    Good luck.

  • Now that I’ve looked over your project I am reminded just how little I know about rigging – specifically the effects of weighting. In other words, don’t expect much of a response from me. ?

If I am able to make any headway, I’ll get back to you later. Again, good luck with your project.

    Good catch.

  • Thanks for sharing. I’ll get back to you after I have had a chance to play around with it.

  • I’m glad you got it worked out. Unfortunately, as I said, I don’t much rigging (if any), so I can’t help you out there. I have tried to find good tutorials myself on easily adding motion capture files to already rigged characters, but have come up short so far. From what I can glean, good character rigging is as much art as science and is not an easy process. Since I haven’t needed to do it I haven’t forced myself to learn it. Maybe some day.

Good luck. And again, the dancing porkchop is great. I hope you can workout the distortion issues.

(BTW… if you want to share the project file here, I would be glad to experiment with it and let you know if I can find a way to solve those issues.)

You’re very welcome. The motion system is great once you get the hang of it. As well as saving and reusing your own animations, you can mix and edit motion capture files like those obtained from the Adobe Mixamo site, as well as others. Have fun.

I made the original post here at 1:36 PM my time (PDT), and it shows it as 8:36 PM. Another post I made this morning on the Cinema 4D forum was also seven hours off.

Cinema 4D’s Motion System will do just what you want. Since the help files are not that detailed, I hope the following will help:

    1) Select the animated object in the Objects menu – Animate > Add Motion Clip. A window will appear in which to name the clip and select the parameters you want to use. Go with the defaults for now. A motion clip will be added to the timeline, which will switch to the motion mode.

    2) Right click on the motion clip and select “Save Motion Source Preset.” This will save that clip to your Content Browser > User > Motion Source Preset folder which has been created for you.

To apply that animation to another object in another project:

    1) Select the object in the Object menu – Tags > Cinema 4D Tags > Motion System. This will add a Motion System tag to that object.

    2) Switch to Motion mode in the timeline (the third icon next to Keyframe and F-curve that looks like an M made out of three vertical bars). In the open area below those icons – Right Click > Open Motion Source Preset and select the saved motion clip from step 2 above.

    3) Drag the motion clip that has been added to that window onto the object in the adjacent window (Motion Mode).

    4) In that Motion Mode window you can click on the + next to the object name to open the hierarchy and see the motion clip in the timeline. Dragging the ends will speed up or slow down the animation. You can connect, and transition between, different motion clips by adding other saved motion clips, and then dragging them next to others in the timeline. Transitions can be created by overlapping motion clips. You will need to add frames in the timeline if the project doesn’t yet have sufficient frames to incorporate the combined lengths of all the motion clips.

The only way I know to activate/deactivate the percentage readout is with the “Axis” selection in the View > Filter menu. The odd behavior you are seeing suggests that something is corrupted in C4D. Have you installed the latest update – 17.055 – which came out yesterday? Installing that might fix whatever may be corrupted.
