Not true linear (gamma 1.0) but rec709. Davinci doesn’t really have any good way to convert from true linear to rec709. But yes with an OpenEXR workflow you won’t clip the colors which are outside the “true” rec709 colorspace.

Mind you that there absolutely no LUT’s involved, since they can clip and are not reversible.

So forgot all about the standard LUT’s. The whole point is that the CDL grading is to replace the logc->rec709 LUT completely. It’s more the equivalent of the logc->rec709 found in nuke which uses an expression to do so and is 100% reversible. But since you cannot re-produce that particular conversion you take over that process in Davinci and include the neutralizing process as well which is good for VFX.

Make sure that they are compressed with “ZIP16” (also refered to as ZIP). “ZIP Scanline” is default in many compositing programs (also refered to as ZIPS). There should not be much difference in file size it’s just wether or not it’s compressed 16 lines at a time or single lines. However since Davinci is limited in the amount of threads it uses when it’s decoded it gets a huge performance hit when using Zip scanline.

B44 is another option, however that is loss compressed (in theory).

We’re using ZIP16 and get great performance with even 2.5k.

A found an option I haven’t seem before. When you right click in the viewer in color you have the option to enable “Show Picker RGB value”. Doesn’t work though 🙁

I’m currently trying out Marquise Rain software which also uses ffmpeg’s libraries to make ProRes in Windows.

You can most likely just replace ffmpeg.exe with ffmbc.exe
    Edit:
They actually mentions it on the AnotherGUI website :
    “ffmbc vs. ffmpeg
ffmbc has several proffessional exhangements like target IMX, target DNxHD and supports mapping audio cahannels. The latest one makes possible to create elementary streams with every audio channel in separate file.”

    Yes 🙂

And before the Windows version was here, people used alot of time to configure a PC to run OSX to be able to run Davinci on a decent configuration.

You might want to check out ffmbc which is probably better at creating metadata.

DPX as the intermediate format? Just curious…
