February 17, 2013 at 11:43 pm in reply to: Premiere CUDA acceleration does not work correctlyThis thread has been a real eye opener. I’m thinking my problems are GTX 570 Mac (hacked) by Macvidcards related, but after reading this, maybe not. One things for sure, the output quality is definitely unacceptable, not professional, and help is needed. Here is my specific, well tested problem seen on internal scopes and externally through SDI on a Flander’s 2461 monitor’s scopes.
I have been having some problems, maybe because of Macvidcard’s GTX 570 (2.5GB RAM), with Premiere Pro. It took me a while to see and diagnose the problem.
Basically any keyed layers in PPro and their fade up or down (dissolve) is messed up. Simply put some white text over video and put a 10 frame fade up on it. That would mean the transition would be in 10% increments. Instead I get a pop on the first frame (second frame really) of 38% and a fade up to 100% from there. The opposite happens on fade outs, fade to blacks, etc. If you push the background video off to one side, so the graphics is over part black and part video, the difference is quite visible.
When I turn the GPU off in Projects Settings, the problem goes away, except you have to export your final project in the timeline format, and use preview renders, or else the new renders on export will be screwed up also. This problem has been repeatable in other editing rooms with the same card.
Unfortunately, I didn’t notice the problem until after the 60 day GPU card return policy. Is this a universal problem? If not, then maybe there is a cure, so far I and some others haven’t found it.
Thanks much,

Glad you are having a good experience with CS6/Kona. I have the Kona LHe Plus and when I hit play in Premiere CS6 I hear audio only about 1/4 of the time, and 1/2 the time it isn’t clean sounding. Syched Audio/Video is also inconsistant. FCP 7 and After Effects work perfectly with the AJA Card. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Gary,
Thanks for the reply. The MXO2 does have a RS422 9-pin in the back of the unit. This is what has worked great with FCP7. It’s good to know that the PP Capture Interface will support remote control of professional decks. It sounds like I need to figure out the driver situation, presumably Matrox drivers to go within PP.Thanks again. BTW – I was sorry that I didn’t get a chance to meet you at this past February’s Editors Retreat.

Hi Gary,
I’m evaluating the switch from FCP to Premiere, and I’m trying to figure out this serial control issue. I have the Matrox MXO2 w/Max box. I have succeeded in getting external monitoring to my Flanders monitor from Premiere. The DigiBeta VTR control eludes me though. Could you expand your answer about your success with deck TC control? Is this done within Premiere or external software? Plugins? Thanks,

I’ve been away for a while … thanks for all the responses. Yes, I did copy my internal hard drive and then I upgraded to Leopard with my fingers crossed. The results were good. Kona (using BM 4.7 driver) still works fine, just like it did with Tiger.
I wanted to upgrade for a couple of reasons, primarily because some newer 3D software I want to use, only works with OS 10.5. I’m also an Apple Certified FCP Trainer and I want to be comfortable with Leopard.
Thanks to all.

Following your advice and others, I called AJA and they termed the KonaSD card as “end of life”, meaning they don’t support the card anymore. In fact, they said, most products are “end of lifed” after about 3 years. In this case, “Black Magic is the only one that could answer this driver question,” AJA said.
Thanks for your help, maybe another CC member will chime in, otherwise I may just dive in and upgrade, and see what happens.
Thanks,

Thanks for the suggestion. In the past AJA has not been to helpful since they didn’t originally make the drivers for the card. I have emailed Black Magic, as they are provider of the software, and I got what sounded like an inexperienced answer, and not a promising answer to my question.
As I said, some older posts here have asked this same question. I’m hoping a similarly geared shop can tell me that all is fine and working well together.

Hello,
I am about to do the Leopard upgrade also with a similar Kona SD card system. Was your upgrade a success?
Thanks,
Jim
