Thanks Michael,
I capture from a Sony DSR 11 unit or our SONY DSR camera to MBP. It currently runs all FCP 5 software excepting Compressor 2. All I really need the MBP for is to capture in the field to save time on projects coming home from the field. I have already been able to use the external drive I save to in order to use Compressor on the G5. I think the FCP 6 is a good option. It sounds like what you are saying is FCP 5 on the MBP and on the G5 will be fine to take external back and forth. Will this be the same for Live text and/or Motion projects (any other FCS software?

Do you think there be any problem with capturing to an external drive on the Intel and then working with the drive on the G5 IE: codec issues? Will the Leopard or intel cause any conflict with the G5? I ask because this way I can use Compressor on the G5 for projects. My concern is corrupting the G5 which is a dedicated suite with a lot of vital current templating. I have backed up. I just want to avoid any problems if possible. Also, if i want to buy the FCS 3 FCP 6 upgrade where can I do it?

How do I get just that update David? They have told me the update is FCP 2009. Is there an update for just FCP 6 FCS3?

I am operating FCP 5.02 I believe. It operating fine on my Intel. However, Compressor 2 will not be supported on Leopard. This is what Apple told me.

I have spoken with Apple directly. I have purchased a new Macbook Pro with Intel and it runs Leopard. What I have been told is this OS will not support Compressor 2 and that I need to upgrade to Final Cut 2009. The challenge is that if I upgrade to FCP 2009 my file projects from FCP 5 will be incompatible with my G5 tower (3 years old). What I am doing is logging & capturing to my Macbook as all of the rest of my FCP 5 Suite works in the Macbook. I then just move the external drive to edit to the G5 where Compressor works. Based on the different OS and the Intel based Macbook Pro, I am going to ask the forum today if this is OK to do without concern for file corruption.

I am having similar concerns with Compressor. Were you ever able to solve the concern?

After repair I have been advised to reinstall Compressor. Does this require uninstall then initiate compressor disc from FCP SUITE?
