Tried Hideaki’s first method. It helps. Apparently, Vegas slows down the processing (takes longer) and uses less RAM.

“preferences > options > video tab > set the rendering threads to 1 and the dynamic ram preview to 0. if that doesnt work save the files and install vegas 10.0c and reinstall all your plug-ins etc and then its fixed that way. ”

But, the real solution is to increase the RAM usable by Vegas. Any ideas? Does not appear to be a system RAM issue because I am using only @33% of total (8GB).

There is a workabout. Break your project into parts. Then, combine the wmv files into one big file. Apparently, Vegas has no problem with that.

Why does Vegas suddenly abort when you are working within known tolerances? IMO, there’s a bug that Sony needs to fix. Hate to have to reinstall every time that happens.

  • Impressive. A real narrative too!!!

    Thanks

    Arh, John!

Does this mean that it can’t be done with a recording in the field using a standard external mic?

Or, is there a special proceedure that you need to do before you deploy Sound Forge etc?

Has anyone used Sound Forge Audio Studio 10.0’s Vocal Eraser plug-in. Does it work well? It’s just $65 for the software.

John points out that this might not work on mono input. Would a stereo mic solve the problem?

    Thanks Nigel,

That’s a good idea. I will use soft background music to mask low noise for wildlife video. I discovered after erasing traffic noise that more work needs to be done to rebalance the track.

Yes, Sony’s Track EQ is easy to use. Still, I will have to invest in software to isolate particular noises. Thanks to all the suggestions. Lot’s of learning for a newbie like me.

    Thanks Guys,

I will give them a try. Bit more expensive than I had anticipated?

Any decent programs for about $50?

    Solved the problem.

Downloaded Microsoft’s Mats_Run.Codec to identify and repair the problem. But, it won’t install.

So, I restarted the computer and it appears to have repaired the problem. Everything back to normal.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for answering. I am trying to convert Panasonic GH1 AVCHD to WMV or MP4.

AS you may know, the 1080p 24 video is coded as a MPEG2 (transport) 30fps interlaced. With Vegas Platinum, I can convert it as 1080i 30 to a MP4 or WMV (Quality VRB).

Currently, I am trying to mix 1080 and 720 files in a project. It works fine after I have rendered the m2ts files into WMV. But, it balks when I use 1080 files that have not been rendered.

Just wondered if it is possible (to cut the work flow) to work with the original m2ts files.

Also, I was wondering why rendered AVI videos won’t playback in WMP (Vista OS). I assumed that AVI should since it is a Windows container?
