  • You can use the eyeball to the left of the name to turn that individual layer on and off, if thats what you are asking. also you can “Solo” a layer by clicking the box to the right of the eyeball. On another note when doing effects in your effects control panel you can click the F/X to the left of the name and turn individual effects on and off.

    On a side note you can also use a color layer above it and use the alpha matte to knock out the color. ie press f4 change track matte to alpha or alpha inverted. your possibilies are endless this way as you can use solids, gradients or any other layer to go off of.

    You can change the transfer mode in after effects to screen and that should knock out the black, also you can try a luma key if you are in any other program.
