Thank you gentleman for your comments! They were most appreciated and confirm my own intuition about going with Sony. I’ve put in my order for the new EX-1R (due out this December) after testing the original EX-1 model last spring. I looks like they’ve incorporated a lot of improvements into this new model and kept the price consistent. I’m looking at purchasing a quality colour grading HD monitor for under $5K USD. The only thing that seems to come close is the JVC Verite series Studio Monitor (Model DT-V24L3DY). For the money, it looks like it would give me the best value from what I’ve researched. I’d be interested in comparing notes with anyone who has gone through this monitor selection process recently.
Cheers,
Jim

Here is my formula below. I’ve found flip4mac a waste of time and inferior. A better solution would be Visual Hub (the swiss army knife of encoders). I you can afford it buy Sorenson Squeeze. Here is my tried and true encoding recipe.

David,
I noticed that the 12.0.2 updater link is not active this morning; although the full verson is accessible. Any estimates on when XDCAM HD can be ingested directly into HDe?
I guess Leopard compatibility is the primary focus right now.

Jim

Thank you Kieran for your comprehensive answer and thanks for your tip on encoding! I was also having some issues with colour shifts during transitions with DV encoded material and thought the codec might be the issue.

There is an excellent program called StillLife
from http://www.grantedsw.com Its a real gem of a program for moving on stills! -
I’ve just bought an HDe system and a new 3gig x 8. I’m still trying to sort out what is the best & economical storage option to go with for uncompressed HD.
I’ve found the Dulce SATA raid systems very interesting and Bob Zelin has raved about them in his article. Any suggestions from the trenches on what solutions are working for them? -
I like MPGEG 1 also – I have not been as happy with the results from Flip4Mac at least from
my G4.What do people prefer to use for encoding Flash video?

December 8, 2006 at 2:35 pm in reply to: Moire patterns and 24 p when you can’t go toplessThanks Barry. I’ve just purchased your book. Have you been happy with the Panasonic HD 200?
Is the P2 technology been reliable? I’ve stay away from HDV cameras because of the compression.Cheers,
Jim
