I have both 7.01 and a 7.02 machines, and on all, Ctrl-G just closes that one gap consistently. Oh well:)

My results from two machine upgrades: MBP and iMac, both circa 2008. Great, but problem with FxFactory (downlevel 2.1.3) on the iMac – I had to reinstall FxFactory as it was blowing compressor outta the water on projects with plugs from that container. I just reinstalled the same version, as I don’t want to get into that basket of snakes right now.

The MBP has an esata card, and it seems to work just as before. Other apps tested: FCS3 suite, CS4suite, C4D10.5, Poser7, Maya2010, TBStoryboardPro, DiskWarrior, CCC, DriveGenius2 (just benchmarking), and Office 2008 stuff.

I told the boys downstairs about the update – they have a 10.6.1 macpro protools machine, and they told me to go pound sand, but i guess audio boys are like that:)

ps.Sure wish apple would surprise us with something really cool in a point release, like a 64-bit render engine:)

ha, until u get a bad clone:) that happened to me once cause I got lazy. Now I have at least two clones for every drive…it’s crazy man, and the bigger the drives get (and the more bloated the apps) the longer it takes to restore a machine; i’m up to over an hour now to get things back…crazy man…

Geez, a year and half later and we are still where we were. It’s really becoming a bottleneck not having compressor work in a 64-bit space. Arg…

January 2, 2010 at 2:45 pm in reply to: Has support for Photoshop Layers gone Wonky in FCS3?

I see…but open in editor is only there when you are sitting on a layer inside the PSD timeline. Either I now have advanced Alzheimers, or something changed in my workflow, where PSDs once acted more like non-layered images…but it all makes sense in my new reality. thx!!!

oh, and the kicker is that there is no longer an open in editor option for any PSDs…and that just rots.

Walter, that’s nuts then! When I bring in a PSD now, and doubleclick on the asset, I get all my layers in a new timeline window, each layer is a track. If you have a PSD on the maintimeline, and then edit one layer to be longer, that acts like an insert edit and pushes everything to the right. This is wild! I’m going back to using pngs…there is also some other aggravating behaviors, like the distort attribute is set on every PSD import. Going to the motion tab in the viewer and creating a keyframe will help clear the attribute, eventually. Then there is no update whatsover possible…if I add a layer in the PSD, it distorts all the others on the timeline…uh oh. I am using FCP 7.01 and PS 11.0.1 in SL.

December 22, 2009 at 4:50 pm in reply to: Motion, Toon Boon Studio, TB Animate, or something else?

Well, just to close this out: I tried both TB Animate and TBS 5, and chose TBS5 for simplicity and cost. It does what it advertises to do, albeit with a hokey & sometimes baffling interface, however, it’s not really that much different then Adobe Flash. This tool is for someone who has to scan in a lot of drawings and animate, or has layered PSDs or Ai files. There is very little in the way of effects, no plugins, etc. but it will allow you to rig 2d characters and animate them on a timeline. So I am busy doing that, and then bringing in clips to the FCP timeline as alphas and mixing with footage and effects there. Anyway, I would recommend TBS 5 to anyone who wants to animate a hand-drawn comic strip with a bare bones and goofy tool. Cheers!

  • Yes, I noticed it was 24 (plays at 23.somethingish) so I would have never thought it was NTSC. Uh oh Cinema Tools…never used it, so I can change framerates with that? Cool. Will do that first then. Btw, u seem to be a pretty smart guy. Do you know what the canon frame mode is actually doing on the XL1s PAL. We always use it like that, as it’s just a Bcamera for music video shoots. It’s not slowing down the frame rate, is it? Cheers, and thx for the great support!

Ps. No problems yet! I am “pre-planning” and very proud of myself…
