[Chris Kenny] “Because that would imply a separate product with high-end features, but assuming my interpretation is correct, the missing high-end workflow features will simply be added to this product over time.”
Chris, seriously, you are all over apologizing for Apple – I get it, you like them – and so do I. I was on Mac even when the PC world said it was dead.
But you are simply guessing, and hoping and speculating. What I see is factual, right in front of me – no pro features.
The big picture is IOS for them, consumer level products – that’s it. They have slowly killed all their pro apps that they acquired. They are all about iPhones, iPads, iMacs, etc. now.
I see absolutely NO reason to believe this wasn’t intentional – and they are calling it ‘PRO’ so the skater kid making a video ‘thinks’ that he’s a ‘pro.’ We are not part of Apple’s IOS finger gesture future.
-
Ha! Good, then Apple won’t make any money on this crime, as the pros won’t pay, and the skater kids will steal it.
Apple just screwed us, so Apple may as well know how it feels.

I know, the apologists keep saying – wait a few years…
WTF?
You guys saying wait a few years or months haven’t a shred of proof that this situation will change – nada. You just ‘hope.’ Hoping is nonsense for any adult.
Apple has shown they don’t give a damn.
The app will open the ‘toy editor’ iMovie files, but not professional FCP files? You’ve got to be kidding. No tape or timecode options? What? Broadcast will be using tape and timecode for a while. So in the ‘future’ we can’t deliver to the networks. You know, a place that pays pros.
But I can upload to YouTube – a place that doesn’t pay… Thanks Apple!

I’ve already been over to their forum. I actually have some very old projects in it as it was what I used before FCP.
Apparently it is completely hardware agnostic and can use the AJA boards for output seamlessly. I am just wondering if it is 64bit. One benefit is that it is Boris, and therefore uses the Boris titling software and effects. I’m not sure of much else, but FCPX is crap and I will look very carefully at them as an option.
Certainly they haven’t decided to dumb it down or force some ridiculous ‘new’ paradigm (which is great for YouTube skater videos).

Hilarious!! Like the crossbone X’s!

There it is – there’s the attitude. We are going to conform to his ideas and that’s it – like Kai Krause of years gone by, who ruined countless apps and plug ins with his crappy unworkable interfaces.
.
That email nauseates me – it means without an incredible amount of flak he will be too arrogant to listen.Well, the flak is everywhere now – and it ain’t gonna die down anytime soon. He better be listening or he can chat with grandma about his awesome, useless app, the pros will blow him off like a bad habit.

[Chris Kenny] “That’s not really a good illustration of your point. The QuickTime X player app has such a limited feature set because Apple didn’t have a fully-featured post-QuickTime media architecture to leverage for it. But Apple has been working on such a thing — FCP X is actually the first significant app that uses it.”
How’s this from USA Today:
“I’m shocked,” says Paul Harb of Beyond Creative Productions, who was co-editor on the recent films The Expendables and Rocky Balboa. “I’ve never seen a company take a piece of software, say this is the next evolution, and make it feel like 20 steps backward.”

Apple has failed – I HOPE they fix it – I HOPE they make a credible statement, and fast. I have lots of money invested in FCP, but if it is going to be a toy editing system then forget it. I also HOPE I am wrong.

[Chris Kenny] “It never was fixed. Even the Verizon model has a similar issue. The whole thing was just blown way out of proportion, and once Apple made its case with comparisons to other phones, and tossed people some free bumpers for a while, it fizzled out. It’s a classic illustration of the Internet’s ability to generate huge quantities of smoke around very little fire.”
Well, I imagine in iPhone 5 they won’t have an antennae problem – I imagine that is getting a lot of scrutiny.
Also, and I forget who mentioned it, but the new quicktime came with many promises, and I still have to use quicktime 7 to generate useful files. No one bitched and nothing got fixed. Silence never works.Apple does need to have their feet held to the fire, and leaving out importing v7 files is a huge issue! I can’t tell you how many times I have to pull up an old job and then use it for the basis of a new iteration for clients. Starting from scratch is NOT viable. And if I have to start from scratch it will just make me go look at what other options I have for a modern, professional, NLE system.

Actually attacking Apple is absolutely the right course if we want to see any decent features anytime soon.
If we all had your attitude we wouldn’t see anything for years – if ever. We would be enablers for bad behavior.
Right now Apple is realizing they made a HUGE error. It’s getting a lot of press about this debacle. Pulling the comments shows desperation on Apple’s part – they thought the pros would just roll over, and guess what – they won’t. I’ve put a lot of money into my system, I don’t want to move to a different NLE, but I will if they don’t add REAL pro features fast and show a dedication to pros – not doing that will show me I’m in a dead end. Long ago I used Media 100 – I never thought I would say this , but I am looking at their sell sheets.
Also you mention the iphone antennae blow up – well if we took you advice it never would have been fixed.
Apple blew it on this big time, and they ought to know it.

I used to run a Media100 years ago when I started out, when M100 started falling apart I went to Final Cit and have been on FCP for at least 8 years now.
Frankly I’m disgusted today, and I think many FCP people are – I really like FCP. But if Apple is going to dumb FCP down to the point where it is, at best, iMovie pro, I will be moving on, as will all the other pros.
Media100 ought to do something and fast. I’m only in this forum because I am gauging where to go next. Also, what is the architecture of Media100 now? Is it 64 bit? How realtime are the transitions.
