I also have had a “preview disabled” problem when trying to capture BM PAL 8-bit uncompressed through SDI – (the footage was 16:9 digibeta fed from a Sony J30).

With the “Preview Disabled” I hit the capture “now” and an error message came up saying “codec error, unsupported frame size”. I switched to 10 bit uncompressed and, still with no preview, I hit capture and suddenly it started capturing the footage. So I stopped capture returned to 8-bit and the same error message came up. I am not doing anything that I haven’t had working before.

So I googled the problem and this post came up. So following the instructions I reset the BM preferences to say “send Black” (as instructed), restarted the mac and it started working.

I have presently not switched the preferences back, restarted and tried again but will do after my capture is complete.

Have you found out what this problem is?

However I must disagree with you about the TV safe, broadcast monitors show the entire picture including the TV safe area. They also have an H/V delay function to show everything outside the visible picture.

I have now ruled out Minerva as the source of the problem because I have played the digi through the ARC replacing the top and bottom 2 lines of picture with black then into Minerva and that has solved the problem. If Minerva was putting the white lines there it would still put them there over the black.

I have checked some other video which was played out to digi and then encoded on Minerva from both before and after I did this job and it’s all fine. I’ve had a close look at the original files and even zoomed to 800% there is nothing visibly wrong with it.

That said and done the only solution available is to crop. Not ideal and would still like to hear other input from Cow Community members to see if anyone else has had a similar problem or whether its ghosts in the machine.

Hi Folks

I’m having a problem with AVCHD files being recognised.

I have FCP 6.0.2, QT 7.3.1, Intel Quadcore.

This is the first time I have experienced these files, I have been given an external drive with the files on it in different folders (so no cameras or SD cards). When I try the Log & Transfer window and choose a path, I get unrecognised file structure when I choose the folder.

I have set up a new folder with the following file structure on my drive:

AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM/

Then the files, but still get the same problem. I’ve looked for Perian in the QT folder and done a search for it but cant find anything related.

Any ideas?

I didn’t even know they made Vodka in Kentucky? Isn’t that called Moonshine? So that’s how JavaScript was devised – Sea Monkeys on Moonshine, it all makes sense now! The evolutionary process has turned full cycle….

…..as for the ladies, plying them with moonshine riddled with Sea Monkeys was probably not your best move! But pussy-cats serving Vodka? As Jack says in the Shining “You set ’em up and I’ll knock ’em back Lloyd. One by one”!

Well my vino is gone but the AE renders are looking great! A wee dram (as we say in Scotland), and I’ll review my renders in the morning!

Q. Infinite Sea Monkey Theorem. If you had an infinite number of Sea Monkeys and an infinite number of waterproof consoles how long would it take for one to come up with a definitive guide to JavaScript for After Effects?

Thanks for your help. I’ve looked through all of the AE tutorials I can find listed and none of the afore mentioned is the one I was looking for. It was interesting because it not only created the 3D text but also added some “light-streaks” on its movement and how to add environment reflection maps.

I mentioned the bit about sleep deprivation because that is what made it quite distinctive, one Spanish-sounding chap started it and then obviously let his friend take over half way through the tutorial and they made a bit of a joke about it. But it also offered a way of doing things that Aharon, Peter and Traylor don’t cover in in theirs.

Thats what makes me think it was removed, or I’m being daft and didn’t find it on CC – (wish the history in my firefox went back a week or so!).
