Did you get Premiere and AE as part of a suite? If so you can use dynamic link.

    https://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/dynamiclink/

If not, you could render from After Effects as a .mov using Animation set to 100% quality.

What kind of problems were you getting when you rendered from AE?

If you are referring to a ‘mask’, then no. Masks are a series of points, each with different position coordinates. This also means they do not have a rotation property. So there is no way to simply parent the mask to the null.

However, you can create the ‘mask’ on a separate layer, then parent the layer to the null and use it as a ‘matte’.

  • Are you holding ctrl or cmd when starting your RAM preview. This issue you are getting is when you choose to do a “Save RAM Preview” instead of just a RAM preview.

Try going to Composition>Preview>RAM Preview and see if that works for you.

Try turning on the Collapse Transformations switch for your particle pre-comp layer. That should fix the problem.

In case you don’t know that’s the icon that looks like a sun to the right of the “shy” switch.

December 5, 2010 at 6:01 pm in reply to: Split Comp Question

Is there a reason you couldn’t just put both clips into Video 4? Just have the first clip show for however much time and then have the second clip on the layer above starting when you want the cut to happen. It doesn’t seem like there is a reason to split the comp.

Also, a possible reason you aren’t seeing a video layer in the comps is because they may be “shyed” away. When I create templates I shy layers so that people don’t accidentally select something they shouldn’t.

December 4, 2010 at 7:11 am in reply to: Selecting human eyes and making everything else black

If I understand what you are asking, what you are trying to do is fairly simple, however it would be a lot to explain through a forum post. Basically what you want to do is connect your tracking to a matte of the eyes and then use that matte as the alpha for your video.

To do this, apply your tracking data to a new solid, (or better yet a null object and then parent it to a new solid). Then use the pen tool to cut out the shape of the eyes onto your new solid. To do this you will have to lower the opacity or turn off the visibility of your solid so you can trace the shape of the eyes. Either way, make sure the solid is selected while creating your mask. Create a separate mask for each eye and then set the solid opacity back up to 100% if you changed it. Next, place your solid layer directly about your eyes video layer. In the video layer’s TrkMat (Track Matte) column, select alpha matte. Your eyes will now be the only thing visible. You will most likely have to animate the mask shape of your two eyes so that they stay lined up with the eyes of your talent.

Now I have oversimplified this post to keep it from being way too long, but I have simplified parts where you may need more instruction. I suggest taking a look at these tutorials:

After Effects Basics tutorial on Motion Tracking: https://goo.gl/pHUsF
And another Video Copilot tutorial called Eye Replacement: https://goo.gl/oSKGX

These should help you out and go into much more detail then I am able to here.

Ok, looks like you need to switch the track matte from alpha matte to alpha matte inverted. My mistake.

No, you should not have to animate the mask. I don’t understand why our footage is outside the comp, it should not have been moved at all. Did you put your mask on a separate layer?

Could you upload a screen shot of your timeline window? I think that would help me see what you are doing. I need to see parenting and track mattes.

So the reason the mask is not moving is because it is locked to the video layer, which is not moving. What you need to do is create a solid and put your mask onto it. Then place the masked solid directly above your video layer. Parent the masked solid to your tracking nulls. Then on the video layer, choose Alpha Matte (under TrkMat in the time-line panel), This should do it for you.

If you are seeing shakiness in your image, it is probably because your track is a little shaky. Try redoing your track with better track points until you get something that really locks on.
