Freaking Render Cache! I don’t know what I did to turn it on. Some keystroke my clumsy-assed fingers hit by accident. I looked up the percentage numbers I mentioned in the users manual and figured out where to turn the cache off. Problem solved.
With appreciation to any of the brilliant folks here who would’ve figured out what I needed to do if I hadn’t managed to do so first.
If only I could figure out how to delete this thread…

March 2, 2014 at 2:42 am in reply to: Which is applied first, the Clip Grade or the Track Grade?I’ve only used the Track Grade one time–when I had my monitor calibrated while I was in the middle of a couple projects, and needed to get them back to where they were. My monitor was slightly off (a little bright, a little blue), but my clients were happy with my work to that point. I made one node to bring down the luma & blue tone slightly and no one could tell the difference.

I don’t find that sarcastic. Makes sense to me. That just means I need to experiment more.

I had to look up “concatenated” to know what you meant. I think that may be my new favorite word.
But that goes back to my original question–what do you look for in a shot that helps you to decide between a layer node or a parallel node? Is it an analytical thing, or is it just a feeling you get that one is preferable in a given situation than the other?

I believe I saw Alexis’ video, I’ve just never been certain if there are particular qualities of a shot that make using one better than the other. I guess, as with so much of color correction, it’s largely subjective.

February 18, 2014 at 5:16 am in reply to: Has anyone been able to use high res sources (4K 5K 6K) with new noise reduction without GPU RAM warning?I got a Corsair for my GTX 780, and that’s been working well once I figured out how to make it do it’s thing (the saga and solution are found here: https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/277/28464, with repeated gratitude to Clark Bierbaum). I have the TX650M, which is a tad overkill for just one GPU, but at only $100 it’s a hefty bit of peace of mind. If you’re looking to power more than one, you may want to research further to see if this one will suit your needs, or if another is better for you.
The rest of you–what’s the word on the Tesla? I just learned they existed.

I don’t recall if I have the regular 780 or the Ti, but I absolutely needed to get an external power supply (look back in the forum a couple weeks to see all the trouble I had before realizing this). As far as I know, none of the 780s are compatible with the old MacPro towers, and you’re really playing with fire. Literally. After a couple months on internal power, my computer was slowly getting fried because the GPU drew too much.

That’s the exact issue I had. It was weird–it would export an FCX XML, but when I tried to do one compatible with FCP7 it just shut down.
I did not solve the issue. I was able to export a high-res QuickTime movie, which was sufficient for the needs of the filmmaker. It is not an ideal situation but this one time it works well enough.

No audio already. I’m installing 10.1.1 & hoping it was a quirk in 10.1.0…

Foe what it’s worth, I rendered it again and this time it completed properly. It automatically exported an FCXML, which does not appear to be compatible with the FCP7 project the film originated from. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
