Hmm.. smells like the wrong forum for a tech question :S

Oh well… Sorry, dont know much about your laptop (or have the energy to look it up..)

For the record, to my knowledge, laptops do not have space for a standard sized PCI card (exception being a docking station of course).

BUT…

Most ‘newer’ laptops have a mini-pci slot that there MIGHT exist a usb card you can put in…

But most likey as you said it’s an older model, I’d look for a USB 2.0 PCMCIA. I don’t remember where I’ve seen them, they do exist. Somewhere.

the above script would do the trick for missing files.

This solution would find ones that were created, but not rendered to (null/empty files).. (although the python script could VERY easily be modified to handle this at the same time and be a lot faster – unfortunately I can’t help there, been too long 🙁 )

go into “details view” in your file browsing system (wether youre on windows or mac, they both have their equivalents – sry im not a mac guy anymore dont remember what its called).

and then arrange by size lowest to highest

the crappy frames that were incorectly rendered or are blank will be at the top (if they did get rendered – usually the file DOES get created, but nothings in it so it’ll have a really small filesize).

Which effects?

Was under the impression the renderer-only version and the full version’s differences were only that there was no front-end?

Have you checked your ram settings in AE prefs?
And your cpu usage w/ other apps?

My system’s not quite as good as yours, but I used to have that problem cause I starved AE of ram and had too many other apps going at the same time.

Hey you might wanna try that time echo effect (under Time effects menu).

It’s what I would use if I were to do that effect 🙂

um.. hmm.. any chance you can try that with a different image format and see if it does the same? try png’s and jpegs

I dunno if I can help much, but it may just be limited to pds’s? Or i it all image formats?

Well, I know somewhere I’ve seen something that does this, I just can’t remember where or what it was called 🙁

Anyhow a sloppy quick-fix would be to set the render command in the task scheduler ( I know MacOS has one somewhere) – just set the frequency to like 5 minutes or something and not to repeat if its still running.. if its a dedicated render box you could do a frequency of 1 minute as its not gonna bother anyone of a render box is checking something every minute..
