Ok since you’re unsure lemme say back to you how I’m interpreting it.

You have a clip you made in Maya.
You have the vid you’re making in AE.

You want to match the AE camera to the Maya camera.

You also want to add the vortex you made w/ Particular.

If that’s what you’re after, then this might be of some help.

    Good luck!

  • DOH!

    I should’a known that was coming 😀

Thanks Dave, completely forgot about that!

I’ll add that to the top of my “most important things not to forget” list hahahaha

Have to agree on a tripod!!

God I wish I had one… setting your camera up on a stack of books is rather lame (and quite annoying as you can’t lock the camera down, or pan, or… yeah…)..

There’s actually some rather cheap ones floating around, but I hear you do get what you pay for in that area..

Didn’t think to shoot an actual trace (didn’t ask either if you had access to an Oscilloscope either)… Good idea though.

Another option for that one is to record that trace at 60 FPS (hopefully you have a camera capable of that..) then you could convert it to any FPS you felt like as every frame would be unique..

  • What are your memory settings at?

on an 8 core system, if you maxed out how much ram per core (aprox 3.5g) you would need about 28 gigs of ram + enough for the system to run..

    Screenshot of your ram settings?

Even if i can’t help, all the information presented may spark someone else’s imagination to a solution..

    You’re quite welcome!

There’s three reasons I love lurking around this site..

    1. You can *ALWAYS* learn something new. No matter what level you’re at.

    2. It’s an amazing feeling when what little bits of knowledge you’ve learned or discovered benefit someone else. It’s also awesome to see that knowledge put to use.

Good luck with this and I hope it turns out great!

  • Wow… that IS simple :S

Just wondering if its the filesize… AE has an issue when files get too big…

Have you tried using a different app to split the video into a few segments and then importing the pieces and trying that way?

I had issues w/ a 5 gig .AVI at one point.. had to split it into several chunks to even keep AE running..

I’m shooting from the hip here, but am at least trying to help ya, hope it’s of some use..

*the noob to the rescue* 🙁

  • This might sound dumb.. but can you post a screenshot of your AE view? like your workflow area? so we can see how things are layed out? It probably won’t help any, but just wanting to see if anything I suggest you haven’t already done..

Also, you said you have DUAL QUADS.. as in 2×4=8 i count 16 cpu graphs.. ? Sry if that seems like a noobish statement, but I have no experience on a 64bit machine (as I can’t afford one.. yet).

    You’re welcome 🙂

I thought it was on there, I could be wrong, it’s been a year since I saw that tutorial (was hospitalized for a very long time).

there’s a setting somewhere in there that lets you fade out the tail. I thought there was an EKG example as part of what those effects in that tutorial could do. Otherwise search for some sort of EKG or heart monitor tutorial, there’s a few out there. They usually fade out the tail quite nicely.

Apart from that, you might be able to link the position of a layer with an alpha(or luma) matte, to the position of the glowy part of your animation. This way seems to me to be a lot more prone to weirdness and anomalies though. I’d stick w/ finding the setting for the effect that creates your line.

Again, good luck (and have fun! it’s not worth it if you don’t…).
