With a little tweaking, this old tutorial from Video Copilot may get you close..

January 25, 2011 at 5:35 pm in reply to: H264 in Flash Wrapper?

Somebody please correct me if Im wrong, but I think the short answer is that you can’t wrap an h264 into an flv.

Flash video players will play H264 material, but the player has to be coded to accept the h264. So you either need to have a custom-coded player developed for you or use something like this: https://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-player-now/ ,which happens to be the most versatile and robust player on the market right now. It also features an HTML5 video feature, so the videos will also play on iPhone, iPad, etc..

    Hope this helps!

You should be able to use a matte choker on the buffer layers to get rid of that fringe. Not really sure why its there though..

Let us know if that doesn’t work for ya..

September 23, 2010 at 8:19 pm in reply to: OMF – only exporting track 1, but I need all tracks

Thanks for your time John. That’s exactly the type of info I was looking for. There is only a tiny bit of info about OMF’s limitations in the FCP help files.

I usually have to tweak the audio in FCP just so it won’t be too distracting for the edit approval. Once approved, the audio is sent on to sweetening. And of course I use FCP’s filters, levels, disabled clips etc, etc.

So this is great insight for future problems. Thanks again!

Thanks for your time Patrice, and good point. But if my Audio guy can’t open it with his preferred software, then unfortunately it doesn’t really matter what it looks like in Soundtrack, unless I could see some obvious potential problems there?

    Thanks again.

Thanks for the response Chris. My post audio guy couldn’t open the file in Pro Tools.

In FCP I could see that it was only processing track 1 and then stopping. Normally you can see it go through track 2,3,4,5 etc..

I just went in and trashed some extraneous tracks, and enabled some clips that were disabled before, and it seemed to export all tracks this time. I’m sending to post audio now. Fingers crossed!

Although it seems to have worked this time, I’d still like to know if there are any good reasons why this might have been a problem to begin with..

  • I guess it depends on wheter you are more comfortable animating a camera or moving a comp around.. Either way you would create a really big comp to lay out all your different parts. Then you could either animate a camera in that comp, or put the big comp into a smaller, final frame size comp and move the comp around to show the different parts.

Personally, I would probably go for animating the camera. That way you can still see the other parts at all times while working, and if you need to re-time the camera with certain animations, it’s easier because it’s all in one comp.

Hope this helps.. Others may have better methods.

  • Another thing to keep in mind is that you can put most effects on an adjustment layer above the layer you want effected and key frame the adjustment layer’s opacity to zero to turn off the effect..

The only gotcha there is that you would need to precomp the layer with the adjustment layer, or else every layer below the adjustment layer would be effected as well.

As always, there seems to be a miilion ways to do most things in After Effects.. This is just another perspective.

July 21, 2010 at 6:44 pm in reply to: logo field

I was thinking along the lines of Michael’s Card Dance solution. The particle trick will certainly make it easy to distribute the logos in 3D space, but I’ve found it difficult to show ONLY one of each logo. If that’s not a big deal to you then go for it.

The basic idea of using custom particles is to have a composition wherein each logo only takes up one frame. So frame 1 would be logo 1, frame 2 is logo 2, etc.. Then you use that composition for your custom particle. Under the Custom twirl-down, set Time Sampling to random – still frame.

    Hope this helps..

  • Ryan, thanks so much for your in-depth reply. I’ve been testing uStream Producer Pro all day, and I pretty much have it all figured out. I think they did a great job with that software. We’ve been in touch with the uStream people and they have been very helpful, as this is a very high profile artist.

As you mentioned, we quickly realized that HD streaming sounds great in theory, but not quite stable enough at this point. So we’ll be streaming 2 cams in SD.

Thanks again for everyone’s help on this. The stream is tomorrow, fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly!
