[David Roth Weiss] “Really??? And I always thought that properly logging footage to the desires of the senior editor was what we paid assistant editors to do. I guess I’ve been misinformed. What exactly is it that assistants do then if they don’t look at clips and name them appropriately?”

Not in television production in dc. Mostly they just capture and convert footage, it seems to me. It’s a rare project where their have the assistant man-power to do anything else. Renaming clips? not a chance. How they ever learn to edit that way is a mystery to me.
    Back in MY day…. 🙂

Yeah, though usually in the work flow for the stuff I do, when I start everything is already loaded by an assistant. No one is going to pay an assistant to look at every clip and name it appropriately. I would think this would be a very common complaint, now that everything is coming in as files with funky names. Clip names in the time line is became useless a couple years ago. When is fcp going to catch up?
    Thanks,
