I wish I could get the timeline to display the words from a different column other than the name column. The name column is always just a bunch of meaningless numbers. It would be so much more useful if clips in my timeline said things like “intv with sally” or “scenic” rather than 11NO107987_0006. I know I could make subclips of everthing and the subclip name would read in the timeline, but that is way too time consuming. Any suggestions… or has someone made some cool little plugin so that I get other choices other than just “show video clip labels” in the timeline pop-up menu?

    Thanks!

Yeah, though usually in the work flow for the stuff I do, when I start everything is already loaded by an assistant. No one is going to pay an assistant to look at every clip and name it appropriately. I would think this would be a very common complaint, now that everything is coming in as files with funky names. Clip names in the time line is became useless a couple years ago. When is fcp going to catch up?
    Thanks,
    Jen

Really??? And I always thought that properly logging footage to the desires of the senior editor was what we paid assistant editors to do. I guess I’ve been misinformed. What exactly is it that assistants do then if they don’t look at clips and name them appropriately?

Not in television production in dc. Mostly they just capture and convert footage, it seems to me. It’s a rare project where their have the assistant man-power to do anything else. Renaming clips? not a chance. How they ever learn to edit that way is a mystery to me.
    Back in MY day…. 🙂
