Yes, right-click and drag a psd file and when you drop it on the timeline it allows you to add layers across tracks or time. Also there is a plugin somewhere that allows you to open graphics in your graphic editor right from the timeline.

yet why are so many industry people using it or FCP over Vegas?

I think because in big outfits, managers who have never used a camera or edited video are picking out the platform. And they all fall for the Photoshop integration stuff. I have Photoshop integrated with Vegas.

I sit next to a guy who uses Premiere Pro. Vegas blows it away. In 20 minutes I can do what takes him an hour or two. He has to work on audio externally.

I know I’m gonna get a lot of heat from the adobe crowd on this post! Good luck if you want to write a script to automate your workflow.

There is nothing in the video that can’t be done in Vegas. In fact, it’s all pretty simple stuff. The hardest part I saw was the camera work in the motion shots. I didn’t care for some of the color treatment, but that’s just me.

Rendering to a 4:2:2 format does not invent new detail, but, when you now have a 4:2:2 video and apply color changes it is applied to the 4:2:2 color space. So, any new details from sharpen or color-correct will be better. It is most beneficial with chroma key work.

I too was unhappy with DVDA, and then I spent some time investigating all the little features and learned how to use it. It’s not the most intuitive but I have come to depend on it.

Sony Vegas has native support for .MTS files.

There is no need to convert it, just drop it on the timeline.
