September 30, 2009 at 9:20 pm in reply to: Multi-channel AES/EBU to consumer digital surround converter?Hi Marco,
I am a videographer and do a lot of concert videos. I get my audio mixed into discrete 5.1 channels and put them on my final cut pro timeline. I then map the output of the 6 channels on my timeline to my IOHD (AJA product) and output via AES/EBU since the IOHD only has 4 analog outputs. This way with 8 digital outs, I actually put the 5.1 files mapped to 5.1 outs and then an HD PCM stereo for the other two digital outs and then in Final cut pro I can mute the 5.1 and hear stereo or vica versa. You have to watch your pad on output though.

I use these (two of em) to get my 5.1 audio out of my MBPro and final cut pro into my home theater receiver. You also need 4 transformers like this https://www.neutrik.com/fl/en/audio/210_2044239418/NADITBNC-M_detail.aspx

Something to keep in mind is MAKE SURE you par is th same before and after transcode. This will ase up the processor performance. In Dallas, th best speed on dsl I could find for residential is like 6 MBpS up and 750Kbps down. Hardly worth sending an hd signal.

September 2, 2009 at 6:25 pm in reply to: firewire connection on IOHD turned inward when attaching cableI posted a couple of weeks earlier. While I was talking to tech support on the phone I plugged a cable in and the connect came off the board. Had a brand new one in days!

Hello vows, I got in on this late. Another question I have is what banner or flash software can make these ads to the left or right? I can’t afford flash yet but I have been seeing a lot of these $39.95 programs and don’t know if they can do this or not. I need to generate the code and install it into IWeb.

Hi Jeremy,
Well, I use the converter when I am capturing live mainly. It takes the uncompressed signal and turns it hdsdi with 10 bit 422. I assumed that it would be a better signal than component into the IOHD. I’m probably wrong. It’s just part of my normal workflow.
My main problem is that I don’t know much about timecode. I am a one man show so very rarely do I need to rely on timecode. Now the camera has a lanc out and the converter has lanc in and I believe timecode is output through this. Since I’m playing out of the camera, the t/c could be embedded in the sdi. I haven’t tried the lanc cable.
In any event, the timecode DID come through since the raw HDV and my capture were so close. It seems like it has to be something mechanical. a 1440 vs 1920 shouldn’t affect the t/c should it? They are both at 29.97. Maybe drop vs non drop?
I really don’t know the procedure to get timecode into the IOHD and what settings in the control panel to make it read.
I captured to FCP instead of VTR exchange.
The other thing was that since I was sending a contiguous stream, there was no break in t/c so it captured one long clip. I wonder if capturing component would let the IOHD see the t/c breaks.

Thanks Curtis,
Well I use Iweb and the JW Player. I am not a web builder at all or programmer should I say. I have learned just enough about Flash to put up simple pages. By that I mean use IWeb and create an HTML Widget and simply install code that I saved and simply changed the variables and reinstall it. I was just thinking that if it were EASY to serve different playlists with one player, sort of “playlists and one player for dummies” then I would try that but the intimidation factor sets in with me rather easily as I don’t have time to learn something new – unless it is IWEB EASY!
Thanks

I will be happy to give any missing info if I know what is missing. Could you explain how this is done? If this is a classic web page build, I don’t know what it is called or how to achieve.

Craig, I guess we should agree to disagree. The OP stated that he was going to use a broadcast quality cam to do live streaming in remote areas. The laptop I agree can do a nice encode (I use a MBP as well)but that has nothing to do in this case in delivering a broadcast quality image to the internet. It is a limitation of the card to sustain a suitable bandwidth for a sustained period of time. The Qik references that you cited are NOT broadcast quality. I realize that cellphone/smartphones can do this but it is highly compressed and looks like crap compared to what the OP is intending to send – they are certainly not broadcast quality. My original post was dissing the carriers for “tricking” people into thinking that 3G means 3G upload as well. AND, we’re not even discussing the fact of the OP’s remote locations.
