Craig, I have a question about taking skype on the same computer as wirecast. First, do you need a second monitor attached so Wirecast is off of the DTP desktop area and second, if you send the audio to soundflower, how can you hear it.
I have a slightly different need. Second laptop using skype with laptop audio so audience can hear it. I will be broafdcasting to ustream so I need skype audio. I thought of doing:
1. Have skyper connect with other laptop AND me at the same time. (can skype do that) The other computer will share audio to the crowd. I have second monitor on my MBP. I add the wirecast interface to other monitor and have skype on my main laptop monitor with video via DTP and audio to soundflower

so answer me this riddler – now that I trashed FCP prefs, I load a prhq clip from my MBP desktop, and it drops frames when I send to the IOHD. I send it to an esata drive via expresscard and it plays fine except for this – when I hit play, it takes 3 seconds and I get the spinning ball. Then 5 seconds before clips play. It takes a minimum of 8 seconds to playback (I timed it and it is very consistent!)
I used to be able to play off my desktop with no problem. If I change display output to none, the clips play immediately.
I will move this to the FCP site as well. Also, I made a bad observation, it doesn’t matter if I have the IOHD on or not, it still has an 8 second delay after I hit play.
BTW, I am on snow leopard now.
Any ideas on this?

Thanks GAry, I never thought of that. Any ideas on why my pro res HQ won’t display through the IOHD any longer? It seems that when I was fiddling around with the control panel and FCP A/V settings, I can’t get my Pro Res HQ to play through.

CG,
Sorry for the delay. The transformer takes a 2 channel bnc 110 ohm to 2 channel xlr 75 ohm. Then it goes into the ada4 breakout, through the ada4 and out single channel through the other end of the breakout.
The transformer works one way. if you want to go the other way, into the io, you need the opposite transformer to take the 75 ohm signal back to 110 ohm.
Hope that helps.

Gary,
Thanks for the response. In VTR Xchange, I unchecked to abort on dropped frames. I did do a test though prior to the show and left that box checked. I had no dropped frames. Here’s where the issue is. Upon stopping the capture, I used quicktime to preview. My zooms and moves appear jumpy – definitely not smooth. The action of the guitar player just doesn’t seem to be in real time. Audio sounds great.
Next I opened up FCP and believe it or not, all is well. I wonder if playing back the 1920×1080 on 1680×1050 MBP screen is creating a scaling issue. In any event, it plays fine through final cut and I will hook up my monitor this afternoon to preview that way.
Thanks for the 59.94 lesson. Can you explain to me though why I would NOT want to select my frame rate for 1080i60 as 59.94. I still really don’t understand how the selection would affect my footage.

Mathieu,
Here is another option:

Hi Kris,
I shoot concerts and monitor my audio (5.1 discrete channels) through my iohd. My recording studio mixes for 5.1 and gives me 6 wav files. My workflow is to setup FCP to output to aes on the iohd. I have 2 AJA ADA4 converters that takes the 4 AES out of the IOHD and converts to 8 analog. I have 4 transformers that connect to the ADA4 outputs. Then xlr to rca that plugs into my home theater receiver that has 6 discrete inputs (not all receivers have this). I use the other two to receive the stereo mix. SO my FCP is set up for 8 outs via AES on the IOHD. 6 for 5.1 and 2 for stereo. I can toggle off the 5.1 and stereo from within FCP to do real time audio monitoring.

Gary,
Thank for your interest in this thread. My settings were:
H.264 encode 720×480, 29.97 Frame rate, 300k/sec, Key frame every 240, AAC audio, 56k/s for a total stream bandwidth of 356k/s.
I realize that this is a low bandwidth but I didn’t have much headroom on my connection.
I am going to do some more tests today. I think it is a firewire issue after all. I am going to try to connect again and see if I can recreate this. Then I will change the bus to expresscard 34. One other thing might concern me. My laptop get’s quite hot. I installed the smc fancontrol plugin and I have seen that my temp gets up to 187 (hottest so far) Now it runs around 140 with the adjustments to the fan speed.
Here is the strangest thing that might dbunk all of my theories. When I used my Z-1, I have actually seen the same line on the LCD screen there and it followed through to my MBPro and eventually output. In this last case with the D30, (Sony) it did not show up on his camera or monitor.
I’ll post back after my tests today.

I’m hearing you. The pre loaded video didn’t go through the IOHD though. It resided on my desktop. Wirecast just acted like a switcher. I suppose it could be in wirecast but only in how it takes the live feed.
