Not sure what’s going on with the footage in this case but I worked with some HDV footage a couple of weeks ago in a 1080p project and it filled the frame as expected. I’m wondering if there is an issue in the way the footage was captured?
My only thought would be to try the anamorphic override checkbox in the info panel and see if that makes a difference.

I’m hoping for a good super 35-ish sensor 4k camera under $5k. I’m also hoping we might see some cheaper external 4k recorders – maybe getting down to around $1,500 or so.
I’m also expecting there will be a cool bidget 4k camera that leaves the GH4 for dead because I just bought three of them for a project.

In FCPX check the Spacial Conform settings. By default FCPX scales the clip to fit the frame but you can set it to “none” and use the clip at it’s native size. See if that gives you the result you’re after.

My biggest use for auditions is creating an audition from the current clip. I can essentially duplicate the clip in place, play with colour correction, or timing or add effects, or whatever, and quickly swap between the original and the modified versions.
it took me a while to get there but now I’d find it hard to live without the auditions feature.

Takes look at auditions. You can stack to your heart’s content. You can even stack different versions of effects, colour grades, etc.

Hopefully someone else can remember what it was called but I remember there was an app that could take an XML and create a series of stills from markers on your timeline.

Nope. The window layouts are what they are. Closest you can come is to put your clips or timeline on a second screen and stack the screens the way you want.

Do it whichever way works for you… For me, I’d probably work in the browser because I tend to approach most edits by marking broad ranges of good stuff as favourites, stringing them out into the timeline then cutting away what I don’t want – but if the way you’re doing it is faster for you, why change?

As far as I know (and I didn’t end up buying the camera) they’re both 1080p modes.
The little Canon camcorders I own (XA10 & XA20) are similar. They record 25psf and offer a 35mb 50p mode but that is effectively less quality than the 25p would be.
